The Pratt Library is seeking a Passport Services Assistant to support the Central Library Circulation Department.
We are looking for someone with excellent communication and people skills – this position requires working with both the public and internal staff. Ideal candidates will be a quick learner with a high aptitude for customer service and organizing. Desired characteristics for the Assistant include self-motivated, patient, and flexible.
This is a part-time position that requires the ability to work up to 19 hours per week and a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
This position directly reports to the Circulation Manager, SLRC.
Summary of Duties:
The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive. Additional duties are dependent upon the needs of the hiring division.
Monitor and order supplies for passport services. Serve as a Passport Acceptance Agent. Perform weekly tracking of submitted passport applications.
Perform routine office support duties (e.g. filing, copying, and scanning). Support the Circulation Manager, SLRC with tasks as needed.
Serve as support for circulation desk when needed. Register customers for library cards and maintain customer library records; charge and discharge library materials; handle customer registration problems; provide explanation of circulation regulations to customers. Answer telephones; answer directional questions and refer customers to appropriate personnel; assist customers with operation of library equipment.
Track status of the department's projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate's degree. Customer service experience. Intermediate proficiency with MS Word & Excel and the Internet.
Office support experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to pay fine attention to detail. Independent problem solver. Ability to provide a variety of information and guidance clearly, courteously and pleasantly to library customers and staff. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records.
Stooping, bending and reaching. Lifting and carrying 30 pounds or less.
Drug & Alcohol Testing
Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing.
Position of Trust
Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.
