Reports to: Academic Dean
Salary & Benefits: This is a full-time, permanent, career position. The salary is $45,000 - $52,000 commensurate with experience. The agency benefit package includes health, life, and disability insurance, retirement plan, and bonus program.
Position Summary: The West Town Academy (WTA) teachers work under the direction of the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Principal. The day-to-day teacher operations are managed by the Academic Dean. A WTA teacher plays a significant role in both the education plan and day-to-day operations of the school.
Position Responsibilities:
- Preparing lessons, units, and projects that assess the competencies and learning objectives with instruction that is project-based, culturally responsive, follows the Constructivist Learning Theory and is interesting, authentic, and engaging.
- Establishing and communicating clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Encouraging students to explore content in depth.
- Creating, assigning, and grading various assessments for students, including tests, quizzes, essays, and projects.
- Establishing and enforcing rules of behavior for students in the classroom
- Working with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention.
- Tracking and evaluating student academic progress using MasterConnect and PowerSchool.
- Utilizing intervention systems already in place.
- Participating in parent-teacher conferences.
- Maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Incorporating SEL into lessons.
- Creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment with a growth mindset.
- Communicating regularly with parents.
- Helping students improve study methods and habits.
- Administering tests to evaluate students’ progress.
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings, agency meetings, appropriate training, and other required meetings identified by West Town Academy principal and agency administration.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Candidates should possess a commitment to community service
- Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a in English or English Education.
- 2 years of teaching experience.
- Certification is a plus or working towards a certification.
- Bilingual is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to develop lesson plans, units, and projects that assess the competencies and learning objectives with instruction that is project-based, culturally responsive, follows the Constructivist Learning Theory, and is both interesting and engaging.
- Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to students’ various learning needs.
- Strong public speaking and oral presentation skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Technology skills to track student attendance, grades, and present creative lessons.
- Leadership skills and patience for working with students with multiple barriers.
