About the job:
This position operates independently at a senior subject specialist level providing advanced research expertise within the Genealogy Division of the Indiana State Library.

A day in the life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Responds to inperson, telephone, e-mail, and chat reference questions while staffing Division’s reference desk.
Participates in acquisition, processing, preservation, digitization, promotion, and use of the Genealogy Division's resources and services.
Contributes to the development, management, and promotion of digital resources for the Genealogy Division.
Provides training to staff and volunteers on special projects.
Guides patrons in use of library’s collections by recommending materials and resources appropriate to their information needs, explaining library policies, and assisting with computers and library equipment.
Understands and promotes the mission of the Indiana State Library by highlighting library resources and services by giving building tours, participating in outreach activities, and planning programs and exhibits.
Participates in professional development activities by attending meetings, workshops, and conferences.
Creates pathfinders and bibliographic aids in the use of the collections.
Makes a concentrated effort to keep the collection clean and orderly.
Other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for:
MLS from an ALA accredited university
One (1) year fulltime professional experience as a librarian
Eligibility to be certified by the Indiana State Library and Historical Board as a Librarian 3 or above before granting of permanent status
Experience working with collection management systems such as CONTENTdm
General knowledge of all collections and resources within the library’s collections
Experience working in a special collections and/or digital collections environment
Ability to develop and deliver presentations and training and coordinate tours and exhibits for the promotion of the Indiana State Library to federal, state and local officials, economic development professionals, business owners, historians, researchers, special population, state universities and other residents of the state and participate in meetings to train users in informational retrieval resources
Expertise in the use of electronic databases and library automation software
Ability to communicate effectively, written or orally, for a variety of audiences
Excellent customer service

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
