Brown Advisory’s Technology group is seeking a proactive and professional individual to serve as a Sr. Systems Architect. The Sr. Systems Architect will be a key member of the team and will play an important role in creating new technology solutions for Brown Advisory. This position is responsible for the architectural design, engineering, development, and implementation of the firm’s overall systems landscape. The incumbent will help to build out the Architecture function within the Technology team.
The primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Act as technical lead on Brown Advisory’s five year technology strategy, including developing and executing the technology roadmap.
Develop and document architectural standards for all core technology including business applications, infrastructure and security platforms. This should include detailed build procedures and configurations.
Working with the other technical teams ensure that architectural diagrams and artifacts are developed and maintained for all core business technology applications, infrastructure, and security systems and platforms.
Develop and document technology solution sets for various application use cases and scenarios.
Develop and maintain a taxonomy and inventory of technology tools including an accurate reporting capability for all vendor solutions, versions and revision levels. Produce a Heat Map of all major products and components in our environment.
Conduct regular design and engineering review sessions for new technology implementations as well as technology upgrades. Establish standards for information and tools that are required for these design sessions.
Spearhead our Technology Innovation efforts. Facilitate the creation of the B|A Technology Lab.
Regularly compare and contrast emerging technologies and their suitableness for Brown Advisory, as well as analysis of competing asset management firm’s capabilities and solutions.
Liaison with industry peers to establish string relationships with technical communities in Baltimore and other cities where Brown Advisory operates.
B.S. in computer science, information systems, or an engineering discipline required. M.S. in a related filed is preferred.
Ten (10) + years of financial services experience, preferably in large scale environments with many different technologies, supporting multiple business lines.
Broad knowledge of architecture domains, including: Application, Infrastructure, Data, Information Security, and Enterprise Architecture. Recognizing that no single person can be an expert in all domains, the incumbent must show significant expertise in at least two of these areas, with solid experience and understanding of the others.
Previous experience as a hands-on technologist, building and supporting solutions across multiple technology domains. This may include application development, data, or infrastructure roles.
A strong working knowledge and experience with TOGAF. TOGAF certification is a plus.
Experience working in all leading project delivery methodologies, including Agile, Structured, and hybrid approaches.
Ability to define system requirements, design, build, and test solutions.
Experience in these Technical Areas: Networking, compute, storage, database, data warehousing, software engineering and development, security tools.
Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate comfortably to executive management.
