The Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources & Design at West Virginia University is seeking applications for an Assistant Farm Manager (Farm Supervisor). The Assistant Farm Manager supports the teaching, research and outreach mission for food and fiber production of the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources & Design, and the WV Agricultural & Forestry Experiment Station. As a team leader, the incumbent works with the farm management team and provides direct supervision and oversight to farm workers, students and student workers involved in the daily management and care of facilities, livestock and equipment at the Morgantown Farms (Stewartstown Road Livestock, Organic and Agronomy).

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

Oversee the day-to-day function of the Morgantown area farms of the WVU Davis College farm system.
Address routine and specialized needs, prioritize tasks, prepare work schedules, supervise, and assist in the development and facilitation of actions plans.
Coordinate and execute job functions related to crop production, including site maintenance, equipment allocation and maintenance.
Partner with the farm manager to develop action plans that address needs and improvements through acquisition, repair and-or reallocation of resources among farms within the system.
Participate in the work assignments as well as provide direction and oversight of work performed by farm workers and student workers.
Understand the landscape and soil resource features of each farm to help in site selection and field experiment design.
Ensure that equipment needed for site preparation is operational and available for timely use.
Familiar with pasture management and forage crop production including strategic mowing, estimating pasture production for livestock stocking, and application of nutrients including lime, fertilizer and manure.
Coordinates and executes the job functions related to livestock production including housing and feed, water and health care management.
Understands and assists with daily duties that include but are not limited to livestock census, feeding, bedding, housing, water, paddock and field management.
Observe livestock for obvious health issues and contact appropriate veterinary staff as needed.
Performs a variety of common farm maintenance tasks that ensure that employees, students and visitors are in a safe environment.
Assures compliance with safety procedures, standard operating procedures, pesticide application requirements and certification, institutional animal care and use protocol and appropriate livestock handling techniques.
Performs security functions for farm property including checking integrity of fences and gates.
Pay Grade: 15


Associate’s Degree in plant or animal sciences, agricultural resource management, management, employee relations or a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
At least two (2) years of directly related experience in the following areas;
Production agriculture, team leadership or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities associated with the position of Farm Supervisor.


Possession of a valid/current driver’s license; CDL may be required in future.
CITI animal handler training (Animal Care and Use Committee Requirement)
Beef Quality Assurance Training
Enrollment in WVU Occupation Health's Animal Handling Mentoring
EHS safety requirements and training.
Comply with DEI policies and procedures and participate in training exercises.
If applying pesticides, will be required to have or obtain a pesticide applicators license.
Must be able to obtain a WVU P-Card
