Position Title: Director, Simulation Learning Institute
General Summary: The Applebaum Simulation Learning Institute (SLI) has a state of the art learning facility with a whole virtual hospital focus. Programs and events in the SLI support the ongoing learning, education and skill advancement of over 10,000 learners per year from across Beaumont Health to include physicians, nurses and caregivers of all kinds. The Director of the Simulation Learning Institute is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 daily and strategic operations of the Applebaum Simulation Learning Institute, the OUWB School of Medicine Microsurgical Training Institute, and the Anatomy Lab. An ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders to include clinicians, support departments, industry partners, and members of the community is imperative. A strong background in teaching and adult learning is essential for this role, with special attention to learning in authentic environments, simulation design and development, program evaluation, learner evaluation and competency validation. A clinical background is helpful.
Requirements: Master's degree required with a strong preference in Education or Training/Development. At least five years' experience managing and directing education programs, designing, developing and evaluating instructional programs with specific focus on development of learning objectives based upon expected outcomes, instruction and evaluation in authentic environments and use of simulation in medical and nursing education. At least five years of progressive leadership experience. Solid understanding of standards for accreditation from American College of Surgeons Accredited Education Institutes, Institution Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and American Association of (human) Tissue Banks (AATB). Solid understanding of standards of performance from Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), Association of Surgical Technologist (AST), and International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).
