THE POSITION

If you’re seeking a meaningful role where you can make a real difference improving and growing our City, the Department of Watershed Management welcomes you to explore the summer internship opportunities we have to offer. Opportunities are available in a variety of areas, as described below; other duties may be assigned as needed.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Watershed Protection

Interns will assist the team with administrative tasks that include but are not limited to assisting with field audits, creating equipment lists, updating documents and promoting smart and efficient data management. Interns will also assist the Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Team with outreach activities by visiting summer camp programs, local restaurants and festivals.
Preferred Major(s): Computer Science or Physical Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
2. Water Treatment and Reclamation

Interns responsibilities may include but are not limited to writing reports, entering work order information, and other duties as assigned to assist management. Interns will assist the Office of Water Treatment and Reclamation ensure that the city’s water distribution monitoring systems are working correctly.
Preferred Major(s): Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or other Science or Mathematics based majors
3. Linear Infrastructure

Interns will be assisting employees in the Office of Linear Infrastructure (OLIO) deliver potable water from the City of Atlanta’s water treatment facilities to each customer. Interns will work to minimize the impact of incidents in the community with the DWM water meters by responding to customer requests then by isolating and containing the problem.
Preferred Major(s): Engineering
4. Engineering Services

Interns will assist engineers, construction managers, or departmental managers and other CoA employees.
Interns will be responsible for collecting data for technical/operational studies, performing routine tests and business process improvements as required, maintaining inventory control system, and repairing or replacing equipment as necessary.
Preferred Majors: Engineering, Construction Management
5. Information Technology

Interns will be responsible for using I.T. asset management software to clean up the Department of Watershed Management database and assist DWM I.T. employees manage the department’s computer inventory. Interns may also work with the server, network and security teams to install, configure, and document current departmental initiatives.
Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Information Technology

6. Financial Administration

Interns will be responsible for reviewing customer account information and assuring that the Department of Watershed Management’s (DWM) records are up-to-date and reflect the most accurate data. Some essential activities include: data mining, data entry, account analysis, and billing system reporting. Financial Administration interns will enhance the customer service delivery process and help the bureau assure that our customer segments are properly classified.
Preferred Majors: Business Administration/Public Administration, Finance, Accounting
7. Safety and Security

Interns responsibilities will include but are not limited to researching trends to increase health awareness among employees in the Department of Watershed Management. Interns will aide in helping employees by organizing health screenings, developing activities, and providing materials, demonstrations and information.
Preferred Major(s): Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Healthcare or Emergency Management
8. Customer Care and Billing Services

Interns will be responsible for streamlining organizational information and improving ease of access by standardizing the retrieval process for vital records, reports, and important media. Internship assignments will include but are not limited to controlling the creation of growth records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and safeguarding vital records.
Preferred Majors: Business, Organizational Behavior, Sociology (Humanities), Management
9. Communication and Community Relations

Interns will assist in writing press releases, videotaping, updating printed materials, perform research, and assist with the Camp Best Friends summer youth program. Communications interns will positively impact the community through general community outreach and help to ensure that communications materials are accurate and reflect the vision and mission of the Department.
Preferred Majors: Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Speech, Public Administration
10. Administrative Services Interns

Interns will assist departmental managers in areas of high need. Intern experiences may include (but are not limited to) helping with administrative tasks around the office, organizing events, assisting managers with implementing departmental initiatives.
Preferred Major(s): Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, and related areas.
11. Immigrant Affairs

Welcoming Atlanta Interns will work with the Watershed Language Access Coordinator (LAC) regularly through internship to develop and implement a comprehensive Language Access Plan. Specifically, interns will be trained to support the staff at Watershed, track the progress of Watershed’s Language Access Plan, create materials and information in various languages, and help coordinate internal language surveys and newsletters.
Preferred Major(s): Communications, Spanish, Political Science, Education, and Social Work.
MAJORS OUTSIDE OF THE PREFERRED MAJORS MAY BE CONSIDERED ON A CASE-BY-CASE BASIS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Current college/university enrollment.
Applicants who graduate before May 16th, 2019 will not be considered.
