Education and Work Experience: Must hold a valid driver’s license. The Captain must also possess a current and valid United States Coast Guard Master’s License for the vessel and waters assigned. The Captain must also posses a U.S.C.G. merchant mariner’s document. For vessels greater than 200 ton domestic, the Captain must hold a STCW 95’ certification. The Captain must be proficient in Marine Technology and be able to read and utilize the vessel’s navigational and radio equipment to plot the course of the vessel on a navigational chart. The Captain must also have knowledge in the proper ways to secure lines and hoses to platforms, vessels and other offshore structures. The Captain regularly communicates by radio and face to face as well as in writing. The Captain also records all fuel, oil, water, cargo and supplies loaded on the vessel as well as all personnel boarding the vessel and documents each time the vessel changes location.
