Associate Director of Healthcare Analytics

The Associate Director for Healthcare Analytics is a member of the Optum Enterprise Analytics (OEA) organization that provides analytic solutions for healthcare payers and providers. In this leadership role, you will use advanced business analysis skills to lead product development and implementation. In addition, you will mentor business analysts and project managers for Symmetry and other healthcare analytic solutions. Positions in this function work in the analysis, design, development and post-implementation phases of the software development life cycle. Skills such as analysis, requirements and solution development, process optimization, project facilitation, support across development lifecycle and completion of critical artifacts are needed.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide leadership / mentorship, training, problem solving and guidance to business analysts and project managers as-needed
Conduct complex analyses, solve complex problems and proactively provide solutions for Symmetry and other analytic products
Lead large, complex projects to develop innovative solutions and/or products
Support ongoing operations, maintenance and enhancement of existing solutions
Work with business partners such as client services, product management and technology development
Collaborate with stakeholders within an agile framework to ensure correct implementation of business logic
Identify and resolve operational problems using defined processes, expertise and judgment
Ensure that project scope, requirements, functional specifications, and other project artifacts comply with current governance guidelines and methodology
Be an advocate and champion of best practices and quality standards in completing work
Develop and lead projects that drive process improvements
Anticipate problems and proactively provide solutions

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in IT, business management or healthcare-related field, or 10 years’ experience in lieu of degree
5+ years of administrative claims data and medical coding systems (i.e. CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9/10, NDC)
8+ years of experience in business analysis, business process and/or business requirements documentation
6+ years of project leadership experience in a matrix environment
6+ years business domain knowledge in the healthcare industry
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Project, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio and SharePoint

Preferred Qualifications:
8+ UnitedHealth Group experience desired
6+ years working in a health care payer or provider setting
Deep understanding of health care industry concepts (cost of care, health risk, quality of care, etc.)
Familiarity with analytic grouping methodologies, including Symmetry Suite (ETG, PEG, ERG, PRG) and SRE
Demonstrated experience with project and/or product management and lifecycles, PMP certification helpful
Experience with SDLC or PLC methodologies
Working knowledge of clinical data domains
Experience with statistical concepts
Highly accountable, leads with integrity
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong presentation skills, able to effectively present complex information clearly across all audiences including senior level business leaders and stakeholders
Superior analytical, creative, and problem solving skills
Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills
Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus and influence team members
