Clinical Data Specialist

Under the supervision of the Health Informatics Manager, the Clinical Data Specialist provides data management support and statistical analyses for research studies and evaluations conducted in The Fenway Institute as well as the Health Center.

Representative Duties:
1. In cooperation with the Manager of Health Informatics, accurately provides data management and support for various health center research study databases

Writes queries to integrate, extract and manipulate data from disparate internal and external data sources including the electronic medical record and practice management systems
Assists with data entry and quality checking process
Troubleshoots inconsistencies with data and data collection
Designs systems and structures for file management
Assists in developing database tools for data entry, report generation and qualitative and quantitative analysis queries
Assists in the design and implementation of efficient data flow systems as specified by protocol objectives
Trains end-users on developed database applications and software
2. Provides statistical support and analyses for various research studies and the health center

Performs data analyses as required by study protocols
Collates and analyzes data collected from electronic medical record system using basic descriptive statistics, cross tabulations and other advance statistical methods
Works with staff to analyze existing data for presentations, reports and papers
3. Assists in analytical strategy

Assists in designing and developing surveys, questionnaires, and data collection tools
Assists in developing work plan and conceptual model for studies that require data mining and data analysis
4. Disseminates study results and data

Manages the retrieval and appropriate presentation of data for the various study collaborators
Maintains current knowledge of other research in this field by reading related articles and journals, attending conferences and presentations as necessary Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Education in related field, such as informatics, public health, or health care desirable
One to two years’ experience in a health care setting desirable
Knowledge of SQL, MS Access and/or Crystal Reports
Experience working with an Electronic Medical record (EMR) systems and ICD-9 codes a plus
Experience conducting analyses on databases
Strong computer and quantitative skills
Demonstrated strong written, organizational and verbal skills required
Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment
Demonstrated strong written and verbal skills preferred
Accurate and detail-oriented and shows commitment to and performs consistently high quality work
Previous experience with or interest in HIV/AIDS and LGBT issues
Experience working with an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse work staff preferred
Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
