Job Description

Our growing structural engineering firm, based in Plano, is seeking a full-time professional with the energy and talent to enhance the Principal Engineer’s (PE) effectiveness by providing management support, representing the PE to others, as well as assisting with and managing some administrative operations. A successful candidate will represent the firm to clients over the phone, email, and in person, as well as managing and scheduling projects and inspections, performing light bookkeeping, accounting, and file management. This position requires a very detailed and organized approach to many on-going projects and assignments handled each day by our office. We can readily expand this position to include additional responsibilities and higher visibility tasks if the candidate presents a strong work history and skill set.

Direct Responsibilities

  • Providing primary administrative support for PE; providing secondary ad hoc support to other managers, engineers and technical staff
  • Maintaining PE’s fluid appointment schedule by scheduling projects, investigations, reviews, meetings, teleconferences, conferences, and travel
  • Provide project management for PE’s design projects and forensic investigations
  • Assisting with overall office project management and work flow by creating spreadsheets, collecting and analyzing information, etc.
  • Conserving PE’s time by managing in-bound telephone calls and routing accordingly; drafting letters and documents
  • Assisting PE in managing the day-to-day operations of the firm
  • Assisting with AR/AP activities and general office projects and procedures
  • Creating and/or managing special projects as needed (career fairs, seminars, etc.)
  • Providing information by answering client questions and requests


  • BA/BS College Degree Minimum
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (ability test will be given)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented with superior organizational skills
  • Good problem solver and critical thinker
  • Adaptable and able to multitask
  • Professional attitude and strong work ethic

Experience in an engineering or construction environment, while possibly helpful, is not required, as several of our successful support administrators have no prior experience in these areas. We are a high computer-use office, so being comfortable and skilled at general computer, phone, and tablet use really sets you up for success. Some months are busier than others, so successfully managing a fluctuating workload, while staying organized, is a must to help us meet our client’s deadlines.
