Support Engineer

Forte is expanding our engineering team! The support engineer provides timely, professional, engineering-level technical support and assistance to existing Forte customers. Support engineers strive for organizational and product-based efficiencies via continuous ongoing research and development of operational and procedural improvements

Job Duties
  • Understand the architecture and operational flow of web-based applications
  • Comprehension of relational databases and structured data sets
  • Continual development of knowledge base around the use of Forte products
  • Compliant with industry and customer security, privacy and confidentiality policies
  • Develop queries and reports to assist with and facilitate customer inquiries
  • Conduct technical root cause analysis on application and integration issues including but not limited to:
    • Writing and executing queries within the application database
    • Analyzing application server logs
    • Recreating customer issues within internal environments
    • Creating and investigating SQL trace files
    • Using performance monitoring tools
  • Provide detailed communication to outline corrective action for given problems
  • Determine successive action(s) in congruence with existing processes and guidelines
  • Develop, test and document scripts and procedures to rectify application data or database logic issues
  • Ability to work closely with cross functional teams as well as customers to solve non-trivial problems
  • Participate in retrospective analysis to identify improvements in process, application functionality and/or tools and utilities
Skills
  • Understanding of SQL:
    • Query writing
    • Executing both DML and DDL
  • Exposure to:
    • SQL-based tools (SQL Developer, TOAD, SQL Plus, etc.)
    • Visual reporting tools (Jasper Reports, Crystal Reports, etc.)
    • Java, Javascript and associated IDEs (Eclipse, IntelliJ, etc.)
  • Innate technical curiosity
  • Relentless problem-solver
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid and deep knowledge of SQL including:
    • Understanding/writing complex queries, DML and DDL in an ad hoc manner
    • Basic SQL performance tuning
    • Oracle specific SQL extensions including:
      • Analytical functions
