The Broad Institute’s Center for the Development of Therapeutics (CDoT) and its team of professional “drug hunters” partner with faculty at MIT, Harvard and the Harvard teaching hospitals to translate emerging biological insights into novel therapeutic strategies. We couple novel technologies and approaches to industry-standard drug discovery rigor to tackle some of the most challenging targets across a wide range of disease areas (including oncology, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, psychiatric disease, infectious disease).
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and talented biochemist to lead a group within the CDoT Discovery Sciences team. Ideally you will have industrial experience in small molecule drug discovery, having led programs from early stage Target and Hit Identification through Lead Optimization, and possibly beyond. You will have a successful track record in leading multidisciplinary teams to advance challenging drug discovery projects, and will have deep expertise in biochemistry, enzymology, and in vitro pharmacology while utilizing a variety of approaches, assay formats, and technologies. You will partner with faculty members and their labs to validate novel therapeutic targets, as well as lead a group focused on biochemical assay development and screening activities to drive therapeutic programs. Reporting to the CDoT Director of Discovery Sciences, you will play a key project leadership and line function role within CDoT at the Broad Institute.
Requirements The qualified candidate will have a demonstrated record of leading drug discovery projects and a biochemistry group focused on advancing leads and candidate drugs. This should include:
- Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, or a related field. Experience: 7+ years of industry or related experience is required
- Excellent management skills, including the ability to set high but reachable goals, define priorities, manage individual performance, and infuse the team with a sense of purpose.
- Demonstrated ability to implement processes necessary to accomplish objectives, knows how to organize people and activities and how to measure progress.
- Previous industry experience with a record of effective project leadership and a strong understanding of the drug development process from lead identification through late pre-clinical discovery.
- Hands-on experience in biochemistry, mechanistic enzymology, in vitro assay development and high throughput screening with technical proficiency in standard and novel assay formats.
- Ability and willingness to think “outside the box” to develop and adopt emerging technologies
- Experience in the design and execution of mechanism of action studies, and preclinical biomarker discovery and development.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities with a strong publication record and experience in giving presentations at scientific conferences.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented, matrix environment, and the ability to work through conflicts. • Ability to adapt to and effectively manage changes in a fast paced and dynamic environment
- A passion for drug discovery and sense of urgency to find new medicines to benefit patients.
