The Pharmacy Technician safely prepares prescriptions under the direction of the Registered Pharmacists. They also serve other technical duties related to preparing and dispensing medications, both compounded and otherwise, in accordance with state and federal regulations, industry and organizational standards, and company policy and procedure.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Completion of 2-4 years of higher education with an emphasis in the sciences.
Prior work experience with IV admixture and/or inventory control and management.
Certified Pharmacy Technician in the state of South Carolina.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
In all activities, complies with safety, quality assurance, accreditation, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
Under direct supervision of Registered Pharmacist, locates medication and strength; measures appropriate quantity, places in container, and correctly labels; obtains medical supplies from stock to fill patient orders. Ensures medications, compounding, and packages are reviewed by licensed pharmacist prior to being dispensed.
Safely and accurately prepares medications and ensures proper concentration.
Maintains dispensing records for controlled substances, other medications, supplies, and equipment.
Inspects pharmacy areas and maintains storage standards set by organization, accrediting body, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
Following USP 797 standards, assists with maintenance of all appropriate pharmacy logs and documents accordingly.
Ensures and documents that pharmacy, cleanroom, and laminar flow hoods are cleaned and maintained according to policy and procedure.
Accurately enters required data into patient medical record, including medication orders for pharmacist review.
Scans necessary documents and assigns them to appropriate patient's medical record.
Monitors and retrieves discontinued or expired medications from stock and processes them out of inventory per policy and procedure.
Orders, receives, and stocks drugs and supplies while following formulary and company guidelines.
Verifies accuracy of pricing for all items ordered/entered into the system and reconciles orders to invoices for processing in Accounts Payable.
Participates in the identification and reporting of medication-related incidents and equipment error/failures.
Demonstrates ability to remain calm under pressure and cope with a stressful and/or changing environment.
Participates in the orientation of other staff as requested.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Possess ability to work in stressful and fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with pharmacy terminology, medication names, and aseptic techniques.
Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.
Must have strong communication skills, both oral and written, and be customer service driven.
A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills in handling interactions with Palmetto Infusion staff, other agencies, groups, patients and families.
Competent in use of company email as means of communication, accessing the company website to view company policies and electronic medical records.
Competent in the use of company self-service payroll software (time and attendance, benefits, pay statements).
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office products and the ability to navigate Internet Explorer. Proficient in typing, word processing (Microsoft Outlook/Express, Word, Excel), and familiar with office equipment.
Proficient in the operation of CPR+.
This position requires a knowledge of, and sensitivity to, cultural and language differences.
Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to apply concePts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk and hear. There may be prolonged periods of standing and working with one's hands (compounding), sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with patients, vendors and staff.
Must be able to work as a team member and develop productive and cooperative working relationships with all members of the Palmetto Infusion team.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time.
