Research Associate

Reports To: Sr. Scientist, Assay Development Non-Exempt/Hourly

The Research Associate will design and contribute to assay development projects using cell-based immunofluorescence staining protocols. This person will design, execute, and interpret experimental results and work under general supervision, independently, and in collaboration with others in a team oriented environment.

Work as a cross-functional team member across product-development stages from establishing the technical feasibility of an assay to analytically validating a commercial product
Execute assay development objectives for technical feasibility- perform scientific literature searches, select methodologies, antibodies, and cell lines that are optimal for assay development
Assist team in the execution of assay development objectives for commercial products – optimize assays for cost, through-put and turnaround time; characterize assay performance specifications; execute analytical verification and validation of assays
Prepare and order necessary reagents
Analyze data and interpret results
Follow strict quality regulations (e.g., SOPs, GxP, CAP/CLIA)
Draft and review SOPs and other technical documents as necessary
Prepare and present data presentations for internal and external audiences

May occasionally perform additional duties as assigned or directed by management

BS in relevant scientific discipline with 2 to 5 years of relevant scientific experience
Must learn and demonstrate compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements
Demonstrated knowledge of cellular biology, biochemistry and immunology
Experience with immuno-fluorescent assays such as IHC, fluorescent microscopy or flow cytometry
Experience working independently and with a team
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience in medical diagnostics is preferred

Excellent oral/written communication skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills; works well with others
Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and GraphPad, JMP
