POSITION SUMMARY:

The employee operates school buses transporting students on established routes according to a time schedule, while complying with all traffic regulations. Guidelines and procedures are set forth by the Childcare Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Drives YMCA vehicle safely and professionally.
  • Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections.
  • Complies with all traffic rules and regulations.
  • Complies with discipline policies set forth by the Childcare office.
  • Provides daily transportation for students to and from destinations, to include field trips and special events.
  • Performs pre- and post bus inspection activities to ensure proper operating conditions, adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation standards, and compliance with proper safety standards.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in handling and maneuvering designated vehicle.
  • Maintains bus evacuation plan.
  • Transports students according to established routes.
  • Monitors daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct at all times, and adherence to appropriate disciplinary controls.
  • Maintains attendance records, seating charts, disciplinary documentation, and updated student information.
  • Maintains safe driver designation and applicable physical and dexterity standards.
  • Ensures the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations.
  • Performs routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities.
  • Conducts re-fueling activities, to include maintaining assigned fuel use logs.
  • Reports any perceived or potential school bus defects in a time efficient manner to Childcare Office.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Certifications: CPR for adults and children, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
  • Valid NC Driver’s License and/or CDL License.
  • Strong leadership and decision making skills.
  • Effective communication and teaching techniques.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain alert.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and

loud situations.

Job Type: Part-time

Experience:

  • Bus Driving: 2 years (Preferred)

License:

  • CDL with Passenger Endorsement and Air Brake Endorsement (Required)

Shifts:

  • Mid-Day (Required)
