Community Renewal Team seeks an HR Generalist II to join our dynamic team. We are the largest community action non-profit in the greater Hartford area.

Under administrative direction of the Human Resource Director, the HR Generalist II provides Human Resource support to assigned departments in the non-profit sector. S/he provides technical support, guidance, counsel and makes recommendations to provide strategic solutions. The HR Generalist II must be able to thrive in a fast paced, changing environment and manage multiple priorities at once.

  • Recruit, interview and make job offers for openings by developing strategic recruitment plans, researching markets, and maintaining active and passive pools
  • Ensure all employee and labor relations responsibilities including conducting investigations, trainings, disciplinary actions and terminations
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Union, staff and Management
  • Maintain a clear understanding of Employee Handbook and Union contracts
  • Ensure the maintenance and retention of employee personnel records system for the agency; Act as a subject matter expert for document and HRIS systems
  • Conduct audits and monitor systems and files for compliance
  • Process various benefits and employment forms, provide information concerning all health and welfare and defined benefit plans
  • Conduct employment verifications, background checks and assists with open enrollment
  • Process new hire and termination documentation
  • Routinely update HRIS, payroll, ADP time & attendance systems
  • Attend employment hearings and Union meetings
  • Conduct new employee orientation and serve on committees
  • Prepare reports, develop training and participates in projects to support Agency programs and services
  • Ensure compliance with Worker’s Compensation, FMLA, STD, LTD, retirement, and other benefits
  • Reviews Employee Handbook and policies and procedures to ensure that policies meet specified needs and are in compliance
  • Develop and conduct training on various topics for Agency employees


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in HR or Business preferred
  • Excellent customer interaction style to all levels of the organization, including exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Broad knowledge of labor law, Human Resources including recruitment, benefits, employee relations, and talent acquisition
  • Experience in a Union environment preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, analyze and resolve problems at both a strategic and functional level
  • Proven track record of innovative and creative methods to recruit targeted workforce that resulted in turnover reduction
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; HRIS experience, preferably ADP
  • Affinity for the mission of CRT
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle
