Spinitar is a California-based company and an award-winning audio-visual unified communications, product, and service organization providing innovative visual communication systems to the industrial / commercial market worldwide. Spinitar is comprised of three business units: Unified Communications, Visual Products Group, and Service. Our 28-year old firm provides services to corporate, education, and government users.

The Requirements

To be a strong fit for the role of Project Manager, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of project management experience in the audiovisual, construction, technology or other closely related industry
  • Excellent leadership/supervisory skills
  • Strong computer skills, including a proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), MS Project or similar project management software, and comfort learning new systems/applications
  • PMP and/or CTS certification highly preferred

Additionally, you should have the following core competencies and characteristics:

  • A self-starter mindset with the ability to effectively manage tasks and projects with limited direction or supervision
  • Excellent planning skills
  • Proactive communication -- provide answers and status updates to the customers' questions before they ask
  • A team-player mentality and the ability to serve as a driving member of the team
  • Excellent time management, multitasking and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

In addition to these requirements you must be willing and able to travel domestically between 25% and 50% of the time.

Role Overview

As Project Manager, you will partner with and take point on a small team including two account managers and a designer, and be responsible for full cycle project management (presale to final inspection) of all the unified communications projects generated by the team. Currently, the team has a backlog of a dozen or so projects which you'll take on upon joining us. While you'll jump in with both feet, as you're coming up to speed you'll also work with and be mentored by an accomplished Program Manager who serves as foreman/coach for several teams. He/She will make sure, as will your other team members, that you have the tools and knowledge necessary for success. Going forward, you will generally manage anywhere from ten to twenty projects in various phases simultaneously. Projects can vary in size and scope, however, the steps you will take in each phase of the project lifecycle will be the same regardless of project size.

As such, you'll be involved in the presale/prebid process, helping the Account Manager set the stage for success and close the business. As a rule, 10% of your work is done by the time we land the business, from building relationships to establishing scope and defining specs.

You will be on point for all of the team's projects and will be responsible for completing each project on time and on budget to the customer's highest satisfaction. Your ability to communicate regularly and effectively with your customers, teammates and internal resources (i.e. the Technical Services Manager, installation teams, warehouse personnel, subcontractors, etc.) will be paramount to your success. Daily activities will include project communications, scheduling, creating task lists for technicians, managing deliverables from the designer, and overseeing the multitude of tasks leading to project completion. Typically, you'll travel to the customer site during the Install Phase (and Design Phase) to ensure that everything is in place and understood, and to ensure the project is set for success.

Role Specifics

Design Phase

  • Perform initial site walk and validate scope with customer
  • Create meeting minutes from kick-off meetings and design reviews
  • Develop and update project schedule
  • Manage deliverables (drawings, submittals etc.) from designers and coordinators

Pre-Install Phase

  • Schedule rack installation for internal assembly of systems
  • Conduct pre-install meetings with technicians and designers
  • Identify, obtain purchase orders, and schedule any subcontractor activities
  • Validate that in-house testing is complete before shipping racks to installation site
  • Ensure all equipment is present and staged before install begins

Install Phase

  • Be on-site with install team on first day to ensure that they have adequate information to proceed
  • Develop a day by day task list for install team
  • Monitor and update daily task list and keep customer and/or consultant updated on progress
  • Schedule Designer and Programmer on-site as needed

Closeout Phase

  • Develop and update written punch list as the project comes to completion
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of documentation including equipment manuals, training materials, and as-built drawings
  • Schedule Designer, Programmer, and Technicians, as needed, to close out the project
  • Conduct training sessions on all projects - schedule Designer or Programmer to assist on complicated systems
  • Obtain sign-off from customer
