The Department of Engineering and Aviation Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is currently accepting resumes for part time Flight Instruction Specialist positions in the Aviation Science program. Candidates are encouraged to apply immediately for the Fall 2018 semester.
Provide flight and ground instruction to private pilot students enrolled in the Professional Pilot program. Flight instruction Specialists will primarily work with Private Pilot students in aircraft (Piper PA-28-161 and/or Cessna 172) and flight simulators but may assist university faculty and staff in the flight or ground courses and give instructions and complete evaluations of students in the Instrument, Commercial or CFI phases of the training. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Classification 17-0000 Architecture and Engineering Occupations
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) with Airplane Single Engine Land rating.
- Valid FAA Medical certificate.
- CFI with Instrument Airplane and Airplane Single and Multiengine Land ratings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Science, Aeronautics or a closely related area or a Master’s degree.
- Basic, Instrument or Advanced Ground Instructor certifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Evidence of strong communication skills to include written communication. Must have computer and critical thinking abilities, excellent presentation and student evaluation skills. Must have the ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty and staff in the Department and University and with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Valid FAA Medical certificate.
