About the Role
The Sustainability Advisor is a senior consulting role responsible for ensuring sustainable practices of all aspects of film and TV production at a strategic level. In this role, you will design and oversee the green production plan to reduce production's carbon footprint. You will collaborate closely with production and studio teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks and impacts, ensuring that sustainability is integrated into every aspect of the production process. Your strategic vision and expertise will drive the adoption of best practices and advance our commitment to environmental responsibility in the entertainment industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive sustainability strategies for film and TV production, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable sourcing.
- Green Production Planning: Collaborate with production teams during pre-production to plan and integrate sustainable practices into production schedules, budgets, and logistics.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work with internal and external stakeholders, including cast, crew, vendors, and suppliers, to promote and implement sustainable practices.
- Training and Education: Implement and manage communication programs to educate and inform crew about sustainability initiatives and successes. Conduct training sessions and workshops for production teams to raise awareness and educate them on sustainability practices and policies.
- Resource Management: Oversee and support a comprehensive zero-waste program, including recycling and compost collection where feasible. Oversee the management of resources to ensure minimal environmental impact, including waste management, recycling programs, and the use of eco-friendly materials.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Deliver all required sustainable production reporting documents with accuracy and auditability. Track and report on the progress of sustainability initiatives, including carbon footprint analysis, waste diversion rates, and other key performance indicators.
- Compliance and Certification: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards. Pursue relevant sustainability certifications for productions.
- Innovation and Improvement: Continuously seek out new technologies, practices, and partnerships that can enhance the sustainability of our productions. Identify and implement material circularity initiatives with all departments on productions to reduce landfill waste and promote material reuse.
- Carbon Reduction Initiatives: Identify and design carbon reduction initiatives and perform cost-benefit analyses alongside sustainability representatives. Research and recommend carbon reduction initiatives, obtain production leadership buy-in, and work with all stakeholders to ensure implementation and track lessons learned.
- Liaison and Support: Liaise with production teams and sustainability representatives to ensure that all target initiatives are identified and all implemented programs are effective and impactful. Support sustainability representatives in all other tasks required to fulfill sustainability goals and impact-reduction targets.
Required Experience & Education - One of the Following:
- Option A:
- 2 years of experience performing sustainability-related work exclusively in motion picture production as a department head, foreperson, or in a production sustainability position;
- Option B
- 500 workdays in another crew position within motion picture production, providing the candidate with extensive sustainability-related knowledge, experience, and expertise to minimize production carbon footprint;
- Option C:
- 5 years of senior level experience in sustainability-related work with primary responsibility for sustainability in another industry. The candidate must possess extensive specialist knowledge in developing and implementing carbon reduction initiatives.
Additional Requirements:
- Training and Certification in PEACH, PEAR and ALBERT Carbon Calculator tools
- Training and Certification in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.
- Able to travel and work on-site for extended durations. Willing to work in remote and challenging locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or TV/Film Production. Master’s preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of battery generator use and waste diversion
- Expertise in Production crew roles, process flows, and interdepartmental collaboration

- Adaptability: Adaptable to the fast-paced, dynamic nature of film and TV production environments and capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.
