San Mateo Podiatry Group is the most established foot and ankle surgical practice in Northern California, founded in 1917. We provide state of the art solutions to clients with foot and ankle problems.
The practice is advertising availability for our Medical Assistant Externship Program. Candidates MUST be currently enrolled and on track to complete an accreddited program in Medical Assisting. On completion, candidates will be considered for employment within our clincial team as entry level Medical Assistants, who specialize in delivering exceptional patient care and customer service.
This is a career track position, progressing to other operations and management positions within the organization.
This is an hourly externship, and not a compensated position. Our company is a great team atmosphere and a modern, state of the art work environment.
Upon completion of the externship, the succssful candidate would be expected to meet the following requriements:
The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills and have expertise with patient intake and basic EMR charting, procedure setup, eprescribing and outbound imaging and PT referrals.
Candidates with degrees in medical practice administration or equivalent combination of education and experience are preferred.
Office Skills – Must have advanced level computer skills with webmail, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint experience. Experience with scanning and data entry a plus.
Top candidates will have medical/dental office experience, (plus points for growth oriented practice experience)
Experience with emr and practice management systems
Bilingual – english/spanish or other language.
Must be able to follow work protocols, work independently, set, evaluate, and achieve monthly goals, maintain superior organization skills, and follow through on all daily tasks to completion.
Clinic Organization and Management:
At start of business day, open the clinic and have all clinic areas neat, clean, organized, and ready for patient care.
During the day, maintaining clinic area cleanliness and organization.
Ensure that instruments are sterilized and ready for use, disposing sharps and biohazard waste in compliance with applicable standards.
Take the lead on clinical office inventory, treatment room layout (planogram), and supply ordering.
Scan and file clinical and administrative documents to patient charts, ensuring accuracy of electronic patient record.
Secure destruction of scanned documents
Close and secure the office at the end of each working day.
Be familiar with building safety and emergency procedures.
Participate in AM and PM Tag Up with Doctor and Front Office Team, Identifying patient needs and next treatment steps based on treatment protocols.
Greet patients; engage them about their treatment and progress while setting up for their visit, documenting their progress in the practice’s electronic medical record.
Provide non-critical, non-decision making clinical patient care, dealing with requests for information.
Setup for imaging and procedures as needed in daily appointments.
Assisting the physician with exams and minor office procedures, ensuring that procedures are setup consistent with protocols.
Changing dressings, applying bandages, removing sutures.
Applying braces and cam walker boots, dispensing and sizing crutches.
Send prescriptions, imaging and referrals at the direction of the Doctors as described in clinical protocols.
Schedule outpatient and inpatient foot and ankle surgical procedures using the practice’s protocols.
Manage Doctor’s surgical calendar.
Ensure patients have access to practice website and information materials.
Maintain excellent organization skills, and follow through on all daily tasks to completion.
Financial Policy and Insurance Counseling – Primary for Surgical Patients
Be familiar with and able to explain the practice’s Financial Policy
Advise patients of relevant charges under their health insurance policy (Copayment, Coinsurance, Deductible)
Advise patients of relevant charges for non-covered services, accept payment and issue receipt for same.
Participate in staff and educational meetings.
Set, Evaluate, and Achieve Monthly Goals.
Adhere to practice policies regarding security and confidentiality, records management roles and responsibilities and computer skills.
Perform other duties as assigned, to include documenting workflows and procedures.
