Full Job Description
The President and Chief Executive Officer of NADA represents the automobile dealer industry and the interests of NADA member companies to relevant stakeholder groups, including key policymakers and regulators. S/he is accountable for the overall success and impact of the organization, including strategic planning and implementation; financial management; stakeholder management; member recruitment and retention; and managing, retaining, and motivating a high-performing staff.
The President and CEO of NADA additionally serves as the President and CEO of NADA Services, Inc. (a wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary) and Executive Director of the NADA Foundation, and s/he oversees operations of the NADA PAC.
Ensure continued relevance, success, and impact in NADA's two primary mission areas, advocacy and education, so NADA remains the voice of the auto dealer for the next generation
Elevate and protect the franchise model while helping members navigate through this model’s ongoing evolution, particularly related to new technology
Responsibly harness the ever-increasing availability of product and consumer data to reduce dealer expenses and enhance the consumer experience
Limit the passage of costly and burdensome legislative and/or regulatory initiatives that would negatively impact the industry
Create greater awareness of NADA’s benefits to auto dealers and increase involvement and engagement across the industry
Improve relationships between auto dealers and manufacturers
Strengthen NADA’s programs to enhance dealer operations, increase digitalization, and ensure appropriate focus on the ATD side of the organization
The next President and CEO of NADA will be an inspirational leader and influencer who can drive alignment and results in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. S/he will have an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to leverage technology to help auto dealers position themselves for success in an evolving environment. S/he will speak with authority and confidence to motivate, raise awareness, and educate key stakeholders on issues that impact or potentially impact NADA and its members. The President and CEO will be an approachable, hands-on leader who is readily accessible to NADA’s members and who will represent the industry with passion and a sense of urgency.
15+ years of senior leadership experience
Significant leadership, management and decision-making experience with direct accountability for results in an organization of comparable size and complexity, ideally in a membership organization context
Auto industry experience
Substantive credibility on the dealer model and the automobile industry; at minimum, a proven ability to quickly get up to speed on a new industry and issue set
Experience serving as the face and voice for an organization or industry
Spokesperson experience resulting in strong communication skills to a range of stakeholders
Experience serving as a passionate and credible advocate for a complex and multi-faceted organization on public policy issues at the federal or state level
Advanced degree preferred
A JD or MBA would be beneficial, but not required; an undergraduate degree is required

Work with the Executive Committee and Board in a transparent and inclusive fashion to develop and execute NADA’s comprehensive strategic plan.
Maintain an ongoing awareness of the challenges and opportunities for members and the broader industry; raise and drive consensus around key issues and initiatives important to NADA’s members and the future of the industry and adjust the organization’s actions and approach as appropriate.
Exhibit strong financial and business acumen to ensure the future success of this well-run and financially strong organization.
Collaborating and Influencing
Quickly engage and develop trusted relationships with NADA’s membership to build alignment on the organization’s agenda.
Advance an effective, bipartisan advocacy agenda to tell the dealer industry's story to legislators and regulators in order to promote and protect the interests of the industry, and respectfully and effectively leverage the powerful ATAE grassroots network in these efforts.
Articulate NADA's value proposition effectively and serve as a compelling and credible spokesperson to a range of stakeholders, including existing and prospective members, policymakers and regulators, auto manufacturers, other related trade associations, and the public.
Effectively communicate the organization’s long-term direction to all relevant stakeholders and collaborate with the team on how to reach it.
Delegate strategic objectives to the whole team with clear and explicit intent and call upon team members to contribute based on their skills and abilities.
Continue to build a healthy organizational culture with independent and open communication among team members and between the NADA Board, members and other stakeholders. Engage, inspire, and motivate the team to meet and exceed their commitments.
