Job Description – Junior Interactive Designer

The Junior Interactive Designer should have existing visual design skills, a basic understanding of the user experience, enjoys helping to create products that change the way people use mobile commerce. There are four areas of focus that the Junior Interactive Designer may incorporate in their role which includes Motion Design, Visual Design, UX Research, and Interaction Design.

With mobile technology being central to the products we build and design, the user experience literally is at the epicenter of everything we do. At P97, the mission of design is to envision the mobile payment experience and bring that to life in a way that is useful, usable, and desirable. In a design role with P97, you will do much more than make things look pretty. You will be tasked with solving complex problems in a way that is intuitive and easy to use for everyday people. You will be working under the mentorship with senior designers, developers, product managers, and customers throughout the design process. You will have the opportunity to create user flows, wireframes, and build user interface mockups and prototypes.

Key Success Factors:
We are looking for a designer who relentlessly pursues solutions —not just for beautiful design, but also for a seamless user experience as well. The right candidate will have a genuine passion for web and mobile application technologies and solutions as well as an understanding of modern design tools and user experience.

You need to have depth and breadth. Depth is critical for understanding ownership and how much work you put into an end-to-end experience. We want evidence that you have both thought about a design beyond prints and visuals and have considered all the complex pieces that go into making products. In addition, candidates need to be able to maintain P97’s security and compliance standards in all work aspects and follow PCI, GDPR, and ISO requirements.

Motion Designer:
Create motion studies for enhancing usability, interaction, storytelling and delight.
Work closely with UX partners and product managers to ideate and define.
Work closely with engineering to integrate into products.
Work closely with the research team to test and inform user experiences.

Visual Designer:
Produce quality design that accurately reflect a visual design language or brand guideline.
Understand of typography, color, grid, and composition. Demonstrate best practices for pixel-perfect production considerations and methods.
Use a broad range of style that can be consistently executed with an aesthetic personality or voice that is consistent, though not restricting.
Develop and communicate underlying concepts that inspire design implementation.

UX Researcher:
Assist with Designing studies that address both user behavior and attitudes
Assist with generate insights that both fuel ideation and evaluate designs
Assist with conducting research using a wide variety of quantitative methods, and interpret analysis through the lens of UX, HCI, and social science
Collaborate closely with qualitative researchers
Work cross-functionally with data science, product management, content strategy, engineering, and marketing

Interaction Designer:
Produce and test interaction flows and mocks that accurately communicate product functionality to product, engineering, and visual design team members.
Pair research with an intellectual curiosity that encourages testing and iteration is essential.
Understand modern web and/or mobile environments such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Android UI, and iOS UI, as well as how the technologies of each can be used to further enhance the overall experience.
Appreciate aesthetic details.

Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS degree in graphic design, human-computer interaction, computer science, or related field
A design portfolio that demonstrates design principles for web applications and/or mobile platforms.
1+ year of solid experience working with Sketch is highly preferred.
Proficiency with design tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Quartz Composer, Framer Studio, etc.) and familiarity with front- end development/engineering and/ or working with engineers/software developers.

Ability to apply brand visual assets in a user interface context and understanding of user-centered design principles.
Solid analytical, creative, and visual thinking skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and oral with some experience as a technical writer
Strong design background in fundamentals along with relevant internship work, work experience, or personal/school project experience outside the classroom in interaction, graphic design, or motion design.
Technical aptitude and a passion for staying current with new and upcoming technologies
Strong understanding of common standards (ISO, PCI, GDPR, etc.)
Experience developing relationships with teammates, external customers, and internal leaders.
Self-motivated and charismatic leader and peer.
