Position Summary

The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center is seeking an HR Payroll Assistant (Variable Hours Officer). The candidate will report directly to the Manager of Faculty Affairs and HR Manager of Operations.

Responsibilities

The VHO will be responsible for the time record collection for all Officers, Support Staff, Casual’s, and Variable Hours Officers. On a bi-weekly status, this position will require payroll processing for all Support Staff, Casual’s, Variable Hours Officers, and Service Corp.

In addition, the VHO will:
Maintain vacation balances by collecting time sheets and updating employees record.
Prepare reports by compiling summaries of employees who are non-compliant with submitting time sheets.
Resolve payroll discrepancies.
Respond to all inquiries regarding payroll.
Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures; communicates all related changes to policy and needed changes.
Maintain employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
Assist with the onboarding/offboarding process, including posting positions via TalentLink and RAPS.
Assist with the visitors/observers process.
Generate & maintain compliance report for the Joint Commission (TJC).
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience plus at least 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Payroll background.
Familiar with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
