This is a temporary position through Vanderbilt Temporary Services lasting approximately 5 months.
Evening/Weekend Supervisor will assist at the Central Library Main Service Desk which is a thriving, public service-oriented operation responsible for loaning materials, checking in materials and assisting our patrons in a friendly matter.
Scheduling is to accommodate the Evening/Weekend closing routine on Thursdays and Fridays, opening and closing on Saturdays and opening on Sundays. Must be available until 12 midnight on Thursday and 9pm on Friday and Saturday. Will assist with opening duties on Sunday at 10am.
The person hired in this position will assist our student assistants in a wide variety of tasks:
- Checking out and checking in of library materials.
- Search the library database for locations and call numbers and at times will assist our patrons in the stacks locating book(s) or other resources shelved in specialty locations.
- Sorting and shelving library materials.
- Assist our patrons with basic reference/directional questions.
This position will be responsible for closing the Service Desk and ensuring Security Guards are present to close the building.
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and one year of experience or the equivalent.
Library experience preferred.
Working knowledge of office applications.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of people face-to-face, on the telephone, and through email.
Ability to think quickly, independently, and creatively as unexpected situations arise.
Working knowledge of technology a plus.
