Plant Engineer – Gentilly


Develops and implements engineering designs specific to packaging machinery that will improve efficiencies, increase capacity and reduce costs
Builds consensus across functions as project team leader on complex projects and initiatives
Understands and has working knowledge of packaging materials and how they interact with packaging equipment
Is experienced with equipment that performs overcapping, automatic corrugated case & tray erection/loading, cartoning, palletizing, labeling, online printing, gas flushing, filling technologies, VFFS, HFFS, can fillers, vacuum can seaming, plastic canister filling, sealing, sleaving, depalletizing, denesting /single filing, accumulation, case handling system, sortation, and automated in process quality inspection
Writes Technical Brief and Engineering Study Documents, outlining: technical scope, equipment recommendations, system and equipment performance/design rates, critical assumptions, technical risks, labor implications, high level cost estimates, first pass system layouts, long lead equipment deliveries, and value engineering
Technical member of multiple project teams with responsibility for final performance of project
Develops and executes projects with emphasis on equipment and line startups
Applies logic in problem-solving and analysis of alternatives to assess the financial and operational impact of business initiatives; assesses critical information to make effective decisions or recommendations
Seeks “Best Value” solutions balancing new versus rebuilt equipment, existing and new technologies and hand labor versus automation
Investigates, tests, and validates new technology and packaging equipment
Develops project plans that define scope, schedule, budget and business impact and risks; executes plans and identifies issues or obstacles, gains alignment and brings to resolution
Develops consensus agreement amongst the project teams, research, quality, engineering leadership, operations and plant leadership
Lead options analysis for project technology decisions, process changes supporting product, and process innovations, working as required with Corporate and Plant Engineering and multifunctional technical teams (Product Development, Manufacturing, other engineering disciplines - electrical, facilities, packing, etc.)
Develops line layouts using Auto-Cad or Solidworks, taking into account technical, operational, and material flow requirements

A Bachelor’s degree is required an Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Biomedical or Packaging Engineering degree is preferred

At least 3 years of packing operations experience in the CPG industry is required
Experience working in collaboration with others (i.e. small group activities, project teams)
Experience coaching and growing capability in other engineers or team members (Identification of capability gaps, plans to close gaps in self and others to assure team skills meet immediate and future business / team needs)
Experience utilizing the Capital Project Delivery process or another equivalent Engineering Design Process

Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to gather and validate data independently, analyze data to determine optimal solutions; share analysis and solutions for options with others; utilization of consensus decision making when appropriate with teams
Operates with Discipline – set objectives, target timing and task priorities; follow through to meet commitments.
Computer skills in the following areas are beneficial: CAD, Microsoft (Office suite, Project, Access or other database systems), Statistical Analysis Modeling (Jmp, Extend)
Ability to travel up to 25% of the work schedule is required
