Summary
This position is part of the Branch of Visitor Services and Outreach within the Division of Operations in the Region 6 National Wildlife Refuge System Program.

Responsibilities
As a Park Ranger, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance and assistance to field station staff on program policy, and management, including identifying needs and opportunities, developing new and innovative products and processes, and problem solving issues with field station staff.

Serve as the primary point of contact for program-related grant and other funding opportunities.

Interpret visitor services policy and legislation.

Provide formal field station reviews/evaluations of program and evaluates overall program.

Provide technical assistance and guidance to field station staff in the development of publications.

Coordinate with appropriate field stations and other offices to collect and summarize regional data for annual reports.

You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to be responsible for multiple aspects of a comprehensive visitor services program for a conservation area, such as serving as a visitor center manager; acting as a liaison with a Friends organization or other community organization; implementing visitor services policy for a conservation area; and developing interpretive/education products such as brochures, panels, and exhibits; OR
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.M. degree, if related. Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position, examples of qualifying fields include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources; OR
A combination of education and experience as listed above.
You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to lead a comprehensive visitor services program for a single conservation area or providing guidance for a broader geographic area in certain aspects of visitor services. Experience in an individual conservation area includes: serving as the lead visitor center manager; being the lead liaison with a Friends organization or other community organization; interpreting and implementing visitor services policy; leading or co-leading the development of interpretive/education products such as brochures, panels, and exhibits; and analyzing existing programs and facilities to determine if they are meeting visitor needs. Experience in a broader geographic area includes: providing guidance and expertise for multiple field station visitor services programs; acting as a regional coordinator for specific visitor services programs, initiatives, and policies; or serving on visitor services regional or natural resource teams to develop new programs and policies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Promotion Potential: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-11/12. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-11/12. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.The selectee may be promoted without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
