Jacobs is seeking a Senior Technical Writer in Ashburn, VA. Duties will include:

Prepare and edit network security IT documentation incorporating information provided by user, specialist, analyst, programmer, and operations personnel.
Writing, editing, and graphic presentation of technical information for both technical and non-technical personnel.
Interpret technical documentation standards and prepares documentation according to standards.
Plan and supervise multiple projects and/or tasks involving a wide wide-range of IT network security related tasks. These would include such things as process engineering, some project management, test management, and SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) documentation. I
Interview product managers and engineers to gain an understanding of highly technical subject matter and to gather functional requirements
Analyze functional requirements to derive additional requirements
Document and specify clear and verifiable functional requirements
Design and develop a complete documentation suite: technical specifications, product and functional requirements
Perform style and structure reviews to ensure adherence to standards
Track and fix documentation defects
Create work breakdown structures, document product plans and documentation estimates
Coordinate work of other technical writers

Qualifications

Active TS/SCI security clearance.
BA or BS degree in the appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university, plus six (6) to nine (9) years of progressive and relevant experience. Additional relevant education may be substituted for progressive experience .
Five (5) years of technical writing or documentation experience or Three (3) years of specialized network security oriented technical documentation experience.
Writes clear, complete, and correct technical content
Applies standards to the work of others to give information products a uniform voice
Reads complex engineering documents and interviews product developers to obtain deep understanding of features and functions
Specifies clear and verifiable requirements
Adapts to changing priorities, responds to higher priority concerns, maintains momentum even during changes
Proposes ways to lessen impact on previously assigned tasks
Able to make progress with incomplete information
Shows eagerness to learn new assignments and initiative to identify opportunities to improve information products and procedures for creating them
Communicates and cooperates with peers and product developers
Keeps project leader, manager, or mentor informed

Preferred Qualifications:
ITIL or other relevant IT certifications
Experience with Visio or other graphics programs
Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint experience
Essential Functions

Work Environment:
General Office inside work environment may be a cubicle or shared office (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting.) The work environment can periodically be fast-paced and sometimes involves the pressures of meeting deadlines. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as internal and external customers.

Physical Requirements:
Position may require filing, typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, included but not limited to: bending, reaching, turning and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Equipment, Machines & Software:
Computer work required. Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel and Project). Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment is required.

Attendance:
Attendance and punctuality are essential in this highly collaborative environment. Overtime work may be required in support of customer deliverables or other priority assignments as determined by management. Regular work days will be Monday – Friday. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is required.

Other Essential Functions:
Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Must be a U.S Citizen. Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required. Travel to and from customer locations and other sites may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel. Must possess a valid state driver's license. Must pass a Federal background investigation. Must submit to pre-employment drug testing.
