This is an entry-level position that can lead to full-time Union employment. Operations Trainees, usually referred to as “Casuals,” are helpers assigned to the delivery and warehouse teams. Operations Trainees are trained to handle warehouse and delivery tasks and are utilized on an as-needed basis with flexible scheduling that often (but not always) includes five and sometimes six workdays per week, especially during our peak summer months. Operations Trainees who demonstrate good work performance and excellent attendance are likely to be considered for full-time Union positions as they become available, including Forklift Driver and Assistant Driver. Operations Trainees with good driving records are encouraged to obtain their CDL permits, and those who do will be eligible for assistance in obtaining their Commercial Driver License with the goal of becoming a Union Driver or Assistant Driver.

Wages and benefits for Operations Trainees, or “Casuals,” are paid in accordance with the Union Local No. 703 IBT contract and the Chicago Beer Wholesalers Association; currently the pay for Casuals is $110 per day. The successful Casual who becomes a full-time Union employee has starting pay of $16 per hour (or commission for Drivers and Assistant Drivers); and, after more time in the job, full Union pay currently starts at $22.30 per hour (or commission for Drivers and Assistant Drivers).

Requirements:
Successful Operations Trainee candidates will possess the following:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Good driving record with few or no violations
  • Ability to work varied shifts as needed
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures under varying weather conditions
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, including lifting up to 60 pounds repetitiously
  • Other duties as assigned
A valid Class A CDL or the willingness to obtain one is desired.
