Position Summary:

The Authority seeks an organized and efficient candidate to join ourlegal department as a temporary law clerk. The position is offered under anongoing Authority program that is designed to give law students and recentgraduates experience working within a government in-house legal department togain valuable legal skills. Thisclerkship will conclude at the end of January 2020.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of theGeneral Counsel and Assistant General Counsel and will manage his or herschedule based on current demand. If you are a current law student or recentlaw school graduate with excellent grades and an interest in transactional law,you will be perfect for this position. We offer the opportunity to gainexperience with Attorneys handling a wide range of legal issues, from labor andemployment, procurement, contract drafting and negotiation to municipalfinance. We are looking for someone to support the legal departmentthrough legal research, drafting and analyzing legal documents, and assemblingand organizing legal documentation.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze and interpret laws, rulings and regulations.
  • Conduct legal research by studying laws, statutes, constitutions, regulations, court opinions, including precedents and reasoning.
  • Prepare and draft legal memoranda.
  • Review and edit legal documents.
  • Maintain and update legal database.
  • Maintains legal team calendar by entering and updating requirements, court dates, and meetings.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from or current enrollment in an ABA accredited law school
  • Excellent interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Strong document management skills.
  • Organized with strong conceptual and research skills.
  • Critical thinker who displays accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong word processing and excel skills.

Time Commitment:

The Authorityseeks someone for at least 15 hours per week until January 31, 2020, dependingon the legal department’s demand and candidate’s schedule.

Compensation:

Thisis a paid position, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
