The Video Operations group is responsible for operating the video ecosystem at Spectrum and is comprised of the following groups: Video Core, Video Systems, Planning & Implementation and Video Operations Support.The Video Support Engineer is responsible for providing support for the resolution of outages and service impairments in a 24x7x365 operation for the assigned shift. The Engineer is also responsible for reliable, consistent operation of these systems to provide a quality entertainment and information experience for our customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Programming, trouble resolution, operations and maintenance of systems, applications and equipment used in the provisioning and delivery of Interactive Services by providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for all video systems within Charter Communications
Lead and support the four primary functions of the Video Operations organization: Gathering and acquiring video content (Acquisition), configuring content and aligning with current systems (Encoding), routing content and ensuring they’re in their designated areas (Transport), and ensuring that the video content is provided to the right customers and on time (Delivery)
Responsible for remotely troubleshooting, testing, and maintaining video services applications, CDN, and Linear Broadcast services
Monitor surveillance of multiple video systems across multiple geographical areas
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum of 1 to 5 years of experience working with Unix/Linux based client/server systems and applications
Minimum of 1 to 5 years of experience performing application configuration, programming, installation, and maintenance within a Systems Administration capacity
Minimum of 1 to 5 years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting video delivery or video applications
Must be able to work various shifts, and be flexible with work schedule
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education, and experience
Advanced experience working with Unix/Linux operating systems; specifically experience with RedHat, and Solaris
Experience leading systems and applications support for complex, high-reliability systems and architectures supporting video services or back-offices
Advanced experience and knowledge of VOD systems including AMS, catchers, caches, streamers and associated VOD back-offices
Advanced experience and knowledge of Conditional Access controllers such as Cisco DNCSs and Arris DACs
Advanced experience and knowledge of Switched Digital Video systems from vendors such as Arris and Cisco
Operational experience with building, grooming, and troubleshooting various linear and NextGen/OTT/TVE encoding and transcoding platforms such as Envivio, Harmonic, Imagine, Arris, and Ericsson.
Advanced understanding and experience with Cisco DCMs, Arris CAP/DM6400 Cherry Pickers, BMRs, Imagine BNPs and APEX1k-3k.
Understanding of Content Delivery Networks (CDN) along with the applicable support and delivery methods over IP involving HLS & Smooth Streaming technologies.
Background in performing and implementing network, telecom or video systems troubleshooting or implementation a must.
Knowledge with video monitoring tools, and video delivery architecture required.
- Ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of Video OR Systems Engineering experience
- Direct experience and expert knowledge of MSO back office systems such as Mystro and Spectrum
- Working experience within Telecommunications industry
- Ability to lead team of Video Support Engineers in troubleshooting
