Performs, interprets, and correlates laboratory procedures that require the broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Maintains equipment and records; performs quality assessment activities related to test performance; consultant or researcher within a medical laboratory setting. Subsumes all aspects of the Technician's role. Responsibilities may include: Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis; Performs full range of chemical, microbiologic, immunologic, hematologic and immuno-hematologic laboratory procedures as appropriate to Section; Differentiates and resolves technical, instrument, and physiologic causes of problems or unexpected test results; Participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in laboratory; Incorporates principles of educational methodology in the instruction of laboratory colleagues, other healthcare professionals and patients.
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) program OR MLT(ASCP) and bachelor's degree with 2 years full time lab experience in an accredited lab.
Physician Practice - Educational/Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Sciences (including chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory) required.

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Medical Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as
ASCP, NCA, AMT, HEW or other laboratory certifying agency is required. Certification must be received within 90 days of hire.
