MERCHANDISING ANALYST

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Merchandising Analyst will be responsible for maintaining detailed analysis on markets and positions on inputs such as corn, soybean meal, DDGS, and other commodities and micro-ingredients; as well as other sales, scheduling, marketing analysis and commitments on wean pigs and market hogs. In addition, this person is also responsible for maintaining feed budgets, ordering feed as well as feed ingredients, maintaining and updating marketing client records, assisting with marketing webinars, and is also responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction, both internally and externally, through coordinated processes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with farms, attains feed bin levels, and places feed orders for finishing barns
  • Follows feed budget and works with feed mills
  • Feed ingredient purchasing
  • Aggressively develops and manages effective working relationships with feed mills, system farms and other departments to deliver and receive timely market information
  • Develops a clear understanding of local, national, and world markets trends
  • Comparisons on wean pig values, wean pig agreements, as well as market trends
  • Understands finishing group pig flow and future opportunity
  • Sets up shackle space schedule with packers and schedules market loads with contract growers
  • Provides 1st cut market projections for hogs based on feed budgets
  • Prepares and submits weekly, daily & ad hoc reports
  • Maintains communication with the client and the flow of the proper documentation to complete duties
  • Tracking of finishing pigs for specific managed farms and non managed farms
  • Reviews feed budget, analyzes data and notifies management team of any irregularities
  • Maintains ongoing communication with finishing groups, support staff, and veterinarians
  • Creates PowerPoint slides for CMR quarterly webinars
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Must possess a strong background in analytical techniques, have the ability to demonstrate knowledge of overall business strategy and operations, be proficient in spreadsheet, database, and word processing software, be detailed oriented and results driven, demonstrate negotiation and interpersonal communication skills, and possess the knowledge and understanding of domestic and international markets. Strong math skills and ability to problem-solve are a necessity.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 year degree in an Ag or Business related field required, OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Ag or Business preferred, AND
  • 2-3 year experience in similar field OR
  • Any similar combination of education and experience
