Under general direction as a fitness/exercise instructor, will provide cutting-edge group fitness instruction through a variety of entertaining, educational, and fun classes to promote fitness and establish a positive relationship with participants to encourage continued attendance. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff.

This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Designs and implements dynamic workouts.

Provides fitness motivation, encouragement, and education to all participants.

Provides exceptional customer service.

Stay knowledgeable of all current trends in fitness training and exercise science.

Develops positive relationships with participants by teaching a variety of challenging and entertaining group fitness classes.

Acts as fitness/exercise resource person for class participants.

Works with participants to achieve fitness goals.

Assists with the marketing of the fitness/exercise programs; distributes flyers, posters, etc.

Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Two (2) years of experience in community center or related activities.

This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at times be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Fitness Certifications.

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 10-15 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate recreational equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, running, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are in both indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.

Ability to demonstrate all skills being taught to participants.

Ability to follow instructions.

Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and principles.

Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of the assigned duties and responsibilities.
