Position Summary
World Learning is seeking five coaches to provide both 1:1 and small group support for 100 undergraduate students (junior-level). These students are passionate about public service and will be engaging in a summer work-travel experience. Coaches will provide feedback and guidance as students plan this experience, which could include locations domestically, internationally, or both.
The goal for this individualized and small group support is to guide students in identifying the public service issue area they will focus on, selecting communities and locations for travel, mapping out key organizations, establishing achievable learning outcomes, and sharing approaches to communication for securing opportunities. This includes providing feedback on their planning templates, which may require regular revisions and updates until each submission meets established standards.
Time Commitment and Compensation
This position requires an average of 8 hours per week between August 19, 2024 - May 15 2025, including established weekly office hours for individualized student support and planned group support via "neighborhoods."
Note: Weekly hours may fluctuate due to the free-flow nature of Office Hours, however, coaches should expect the busiest period of the year to fall during January and February, 2025 when students' planning template submissions are due.
This position is remotely based, includes an hourly compensation rate, and does not include benefits.
Responsibilities
Online Facilitation

Facilitate small group support through virtual "Neighborhoods," fostering healthy dialogue, and supporting diverse group cohesion and varied learning styles;

Optionally attend virtual workshops hosted by our partner Foundation;
- Facilitate during a student orientation session on August 27th
- Facilitate synchronous and/or asynchronous online discussions for a neighborhood of approximately 20 students;
-
Respond within 1 business day to student's posts/communications);
-
Facilitate break-out room discussions and group planning sessions with students through synchronous online video conferencing;
-
Hold weekly office hours from September 2024 through April 2025 to provide one-on-one guidance and advising for students as needed;

Create weekly icebreaker activities with check-in questions.
In-person Facilitation

Attend a 2-day Fall Summit (week of December 2-8, 2024) in Chicago during which coaches will:
- attend sessions and meet with students;

and facilitate 2-3 in-person sessions.
Student Support

Create and maintain a positive and inclusive digital learning community;
-
Review students' work on summer work-travel planning templates and provide constructive feedback;
-
Support students on areas of concern with logistics, decision making, goal-setting, wellbeing, and/or setting achievable goals;

Coach students on behavioral challenges within the program community and mediate disagreements and conflicts;
-
Help students troubleshoot technology issues to ensure program engagement;
- Support students with plans for their summer work-travel experience.
Administrative

Participate in weekly (or bi-weekly as directed) check-ins with Program Manager and other Digital Coaches;

Update Program Manager and other Digital Coaches regularly on interaction with students using online communication tools;

Submit weekly timesheets and a travel expense report for the in-person summit; and
-
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Experience working with undergraduate students attending U.S. colleges or universities
-
Experience facilitating dialogue and leading conversations among student groups;
-
Experience facilitating discussions on online platforms;
-
Experience working with students of diverse cultural backgrounds;
-
Experience and interest in working in the public service sector;
-
At least 21 years of age (applicants must be 21 or older prior to the start of employment);
-
Comfort using technology and digital tools, and the ability to learn new tools quickly;
-
Reliable Internet access;
-
Superior interpersonal, cross-cultural, organizational, and time-management skills;
-
Proven written and oral communication skills;
-
Ability to take initiative, be creative, flexible, and work independently and with a team;
-
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines; and
-
Fluency in English required.
Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with The Experiment Digital and/or World Learning Youth Exchange programs;

Familiarity with or proficiency in Zoom and Google Docs;
- Experience coaching or guiding students through project and/or travel planning
Vaccination is strongly recommended for all employees in our U.S. offices except for those receiving medical or religious exemptions.
