Community Action for Human Services, Inc., is a voluntary, non-profit, non-sectarian and tax-exempt organization, serving a mentally/physically challenged population ranging from children, young adults, and senior citizens in a comprehensive continuum of human services.
For over three decades, CAHS, Inc., has provided residential services consisting of counseling, case management, day treatment/training and vocational services, as well as nutritional, medical/dental, pharmaceutical, occupational/physical therapy, psychological, psychiatry, recreation/social activities, speech pathology/audiology, transportation, and social services for our Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRA) and Choices Day Habilitation Program.
Responsibilities and Duties
Needed for all shifts, part time, full time, and per diem. MUST HAVE A NYS Drivers License.
Under the supervision of the Residence Manager, Assistant Manager, and/or Coordinator of Residential Services, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist individuals with morning and evening routines, which includes showering/bathing and assistance with toileting, dressing, and personal hygiene as a part of preparation for daily activities.
- Accompany individuals to medical, dental and other appointments as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
- Participate in in-service training and supervision and attend all staff and shift meetings.
- Perform other household duties (i.e. make beds, change linen, clean & dust rooms, etc.)
- Must stay in compliance with OPWDD regulations to dispense medications to individuals.
- Ensure that all individuals are properly groomed and exhibit appropriate dress and hygiene always.
- Assist individuals and staff in the direction of individuals services including ADL training, provisions for recreation, and group activities including assisting individuals in the preparation of all meals and snacks when necessary.
- All staff must be available for mandatory coverage on any consecutive shifts that coverage can’t be found.
- Take immediate and proper action in the event of an emergency in accordance with agency policies and NYS OPWDD regulations, i.e. fire emergency, medical emergency, missing resident, etc.
- Conduct fire evacuation drills as instructed by Asst Manager/Residence Manager/CRS.
- Ensure all paperwork requirements are completed at the end of each shift including but not limited to data collection, body checks, incident reports, etc.
- Welcome, sign in and meet with families or guardians of assigned group during visits to the facility. Must ensure families sign the visitor log upon entering the facility.
- Maintain complete and accurate individuals’ records.
- Read and initial communication log on a weekly basis.
- Communicate with other agencies providing recreation services for CAHS, Inc. individuals.
- Any additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Chief Executive Officer, Residential Manager, or Assistant Manager.
- Will be required to work some weekends and holidays
- Qualifications:
- Must a High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred Experience working with the Disabled population
- Open To Training Unexperienced Employees to work with this population
