This is a two year fixed term position.
Reporting to the Head of Data Control & E-resources, the Metadata Librarian/Coordinator for Bulk Collections & Outsourcing is responsible for a wide range of complex duties to organize, categorize, and catalog bulk collection materials in primarily Western European & Slavic languages. The Librarian will also plan and coordinate the flow of bulk collection materials through Technical Services, maintain documentation for moves and processing of materials, and route materials to specialized metadata units as applicable. In addition, the Librarian will identify groups of materials for outsourcing and plan, implement, and manage outsourcing projects, as part of a larger outsourcing initiative.
Metadata creation (60%):
1. Creates discovery metadata for bulk collection resources in multiple bibliographic formats, applying the metadata schema appropriate to the material as defined by policy.
2. Responsible for associated entity management, authority work, and quality control as defined by policy for particular schemas.
3. Manages operations of the Middle East backlog cataloging project, including planning, maintaining production statistics, and writing detailed procedures as needed.
4. Participates in relevant professional activities.
5. Maintains active link with other metadata librarians and SUL curators.
6. Performs other duties as needed.
Bulk Collections coordination (40%)
1. Coordinate and supervise movement of materials between internal and external locations.
2. Track, create, and update records and movement of materials in multiple systems, including JIRA, Consul, SIRSI Workflows.
3. Plan, develop, and implement outsourcing projects with outside vendors, and monitor ongoing projects
4. Maintain communication with various collection stakeholders.
5. Troubleshoot and resolve problems surrounding logistics, record keeping, and other technical or metadata issues.
6. Maintain backlog and production statistics.
Education & Experience:
Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Basic knowledge of current cataloging procedures and principles as defined in RDA, MARC Bibliographic, Holdings, and Authorities formats.
• Ability to rapidly learn and implement new cataloging procedures and principles adopted by the Department.
• Proficiency in one or more Western European (in addition to English), Slavic, or Middle Eastern language(s)
• Knowledge of relevant aspects of library operations including understanding of contemporary library practices, trends and emerging technologies.
• Knowledge of basic project management processes and procedures
• Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of people.
• Effective problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated broad knowledge of library discovery environments, office automation software, and online resources.
• Ability to quickly learn and use print and online tools and resources and in area of specialization.

• High level of proficiency using PC-based applications (Windows, word processing, spreadsheets) and other computer applications (email, Internet, Integrated Library Systems; collaborative tools such as JIRA, Slack, Confluence as applicable); high level computer competency kept up to date through continuous learning.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills combined with attention to detail for complex, detail-oriented work.

• Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
• Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasps lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
• Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).
• Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.
• Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.
