General Description
Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques; trains and reviews work of others. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Duties
The essential duties for this job include:
Assists in writing general notes, specifications and provisions.
Performs advanced and specialized design work.
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and PS & E plans.
Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.
Trains less experienced technicians.
Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting and traffic signal design.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Writing, reviewing and revising documents to include engineering notes, specifications, standards and procedures

Education
This job requires the following:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Work Experience
This job requires the following:
6 years in Drafting, design, plan preparation (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
No supervisory experience required.
Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.
Licenses and Certifications
The following Licenses and/or Certifications are required for this job:
Safety Impact Certificate**
**Safety Impact Certification is not required at time of application. As required, the Safety Impact Certification will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.
Other Conditions:
If this position is determined to be Safety Impact by responsibilities, it will be subject to random drug testing.

Conditions for this Position: Standards of Employment
As well as:
Must pass drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety impact and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety impact employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.
Required to work weekends and holidays.
Requires to work hours other than 8 to 5.
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employees and comply with all safety requirements.
Must be able to report for duty within 1 hour of notification in a 24-hour basis.
