Description of the Role

Responsible for contract activity, primarily sales related commercial contracts and other customer-oriented agreements. Involves independent judgment and analysis of contracts, including identification of legal and business-related issues and their resolution. Requires a low degree of management attention. Interfaces with commercial team members, product managers, outside counsel, finance, the intellectual property team and mid-to senior level corporate management.

Responsibilities

Review moderate to complex solicitations and prepare specialized and/or non-routine responses to requests for proposals, bids, and contracts. Analyze and negotiate contract requirements, special provisions and terms and conditions to ensure compliance with corporate business
strategy, policies and commercial procedures. Manage contract changes. Review and gain approvals for contract terms and conditions with internal stakeholders. Ensure delivery of fully executed contracts.

Function as domain expert on commercial contracts issues. Provide guidance to internal business teams on the means by which contracting activity serves corporate and commercial strategy. Serves as a focal point for communication with legal, finance and commercial teams for resolution of contract-related issues. May assist in new business pursuits and development of associated contracts. Over time, participate in development of business alliances and partnering agreements.

Skills/Abilities

Excellent internal and external negotiation skills. Ability to draft terms for moderately complex contracts taking into account corporate contracting policies and objectives. Working knowledge of contracting concepts and applicable contract law, including government and international
contract regulations. Use of independent judgment and creativity applied to resolution of contract issues. Strong to excellent analytical, financial and communication skills. Ability to handle volume contract workload to deadline and work across time zones. Life Sciences industry expertise and understanding of market influences. Experience working in start-up/SME and larger organisations is desirable.

Education/Experience

Bachelors degree, preferably life sciences with several years of business and contracts related experience. Masters degree or higher desirable.
