Performs professional-level work related to completed degree. Provide working knowledge of the use of industrial / systems engineering in the health care sector. The individual will provide insight into the role of systems and industrial engineering as well as quality and performance improvement and their application in the health care setting. Through the duration of these projects, these individuals can expect to work closely with industrial engineering, quality improvement and healthcare professionals.
Experience and Education
Requires PhD in industrial or systems engineering.
Two years’ experience in a healthcare setting preferably at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
The individual will work on improvement projects as identified by the UTSW staff. Projects will vary depending on opportunities that exist at the health system and will be tailored to the institution needs. The individual will use their knowledge and experience in the field of industrial / systems engineering to assist and work with multidisciplinary teams to improve processes related to patient care. This is a non-clinical research position (individual will have no clinical contact with patients). Responsibilities of the incumbent include:
Working closely with multidisciplinary team members on various projects to design and develop workable solutions to complex problems, processes, and systems
Developing engineering calculations, technical analyses, and reports for senior project leaders and executives
Providing oversight, support, and instruction to students and engineer trainees as needed
Creating performance monitoring systems designed to improve process management
Developing evidence-based protocols using data mining and analytics to embed protocols in decision-support systems
Identifying process and performance metrics to monitor and improve clinical operations
Assuming responsibility for testing proposed solutions for effectiveness, and presenting proposals to managers, and senior leaders
Overseeing improvement teams in designing and testing solutions that meet the needs of assigned projects
Work with data analysis team of Office of Medical Education to coordinate data analysis, and transfer appropriate project data
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication, including creating and delivering presentations
Advanced skills in critical software applications such as SAS, and SPSS
Proficient in Project Management, structured problem solving (DMAIC, A3, etc.)
Proficient in discrete event and agent-based simulation software such as Witness and Anylogic
Proven expertise in data and problem analysis, creative problem solving and design thinking
Work requires ability to work with teams, and independently work on projects.
Work requires ability to analyze complex issues and effectively communicate information.
Work is performed primarily in office area.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
