The City of Española is located in north-central New Mexico in the Rio Grande valley north of Santa Fe between Los Alamos and Taos on the banks of the Rio Grande River. The area provides many recreation opportunities, including hiking, horseback riding, biking, whitewater rafting and kayaking. In winter you can ski and snowboard at nearby Taos, Angel Fire, Santa Fe, and other ski areas. Cross-country skiing is also excellent. Española is rich in cultural heritage with Native American historical sites nearby including Anasazi sites at Bandelier National Monument and the Puye Cliff Dwellings. The region also celebrates traditional Hispanic and Native cultures with fiestas held throughout the year.
Although the City’s population is just over 10,000, the City serves up to 50,000 each day. The City is adjacent to two sovereign Pueblos, and a large population in the unincorporated areas of Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties, providing a dynamic opportunity culturally and politically.
The City Planner performs professional planning functions and provides development review and project evaluation involving complex physical design, land use planning, and regulation at an intermediate professional level under the general supervision of the Director of Planning and land Use.
