Job Summary

The Civil / Structural Engineer, as part of the ExxonMobil Research & Engineering’s Specialized Engineering Division, has the responsibility to provide engineering and technical support to its global sites. The position is for an experienced engineer who will be located at the ExxonMobil Houston Campus in Spring, Texas. This position requires occasional domestic and international travel with the expectation that the candidate would have a potential future rotation in a development role as a site engineer.

Primary Job Functions

Provide civil / structural engineering support to daily plant operations (e.g. modifications, upgrades, new construction and applications)
Review Management of Change documents, engineering specifications, requirements and design appraisals
Conduct, review and provide input for structural inspection guidance, evaluation of facilities and design and construction support of plant facilities. Assist facilities with risk management activities to ensure compliance with ExxonMobil’s Operation Integrity Management System expectations
Support site reliability initiatives e.g. development of equipment strategies, incident investigations, risk assessments, risked based work selection
Initiate/support changes in technology or work practices to improve plant reliability
Provide civil/structural engineering expertise to a variety of ExxonMobil projects worldwide. Assist projects in meeting safety, environmental and capital cost objectives. Provide technical support throughout the development phase of projects from conceptual to final design/execution. Develop scope of work for conceptual studies, develop technical specifications, assist in contractor selection, and steward contractor's work throughout project execution. Review Engineering Contractor's work and provide consultations on local code of practices and regulations.
Maintain ExxonMobil's civil design, engineering standards and manuals
Interpret and explain company practices and industry standards and how they apply to plant facilities and projects
Job Requirements

B.S. Civil/Structural Engineering (M.S. preferred)
Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in structural engineering in structural engineering - preferably within an operating company, or major engineering contractor (petrochemical or other heavy industry experience strongly desired)
Candidate should have solid technical and analytical skills and be self-motivated and focused on achieving business results
Candidate must have strong communication skills and innovative thinking abilities
Demonstrated teamwork skills are essential as well as ability to facilitate alignment and open, effective communication among stakeholders

Relevant knowledge and experience includes the following:
Structural design & analysis of concrete and steel plant structures and buildings
Foundation and pile design
Deteriorated structure condition assessment, inspection, evaluation, rehabilitation and upgrading
Blast resistant design
Geotechnical engineering
Rotating equipment support structures and foundation analysis
Earthquake analysis
Civil infrastructure design (roads, ponds and underground structures)
Chimneys and stacks civil aspects
Hydrology / hydraulics
Sewers
Buildings
