The Role

The Placement Specialist coordinates and manages all placement activities associated with the marketing and negotiation for middle market coverage lines and clients. The Placement Specialist also coordinates with team members for the placement activities associated with the marketing and negotiation for more complex coverage lines and clients. This mid-level position is both client and carrier facing and leverages established competencies related to line of coverage expertise, financial competency, negotiation capabilities and employee benefits expertise (specifically related to plan design) to best service Willis Towers Watson clients.

The Responsibilities

Drive and manage all aspects of the placement of insurance for Willis Towers Watson clients.
Review work of junior team members for accuracy and effectiveness.
Train team members on Placement process.
Responsible to work with client management team to understand client needs and objectives related to marketing and to ensure these needs and objectives are effectively related to the carrier community during the Placement process.
Responsible to prepare and release bid specifications for clients.
Collect and analyze bid responses.
Develop client marketing presentations.
Manage carrier placement negotiations for clients including the management of escalated placement and claim negotiations.
Adopt and drive utilization of national Placement tools and initiatives.
Play integral role in identifying opportunities to modify tools / processes to fit local market needs.
Provide feedback to local Placement leadership and National Placement team for additional tools needed or opportunities to enhance existing National tools / initiatives.
Expand carrier relationships to include local carrier representatives, local carrier management and regional carrier management.
Be able to clearly articulate carrier differentiators.
The Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
3-7 years’ experience in employee benefits industry
Health and Life License
Formal underwriting training preferred
Other industry designation preferred (e.g. CEBS)
Strong understanding of insurance products, bid preparation, RFP response analysis, presentation of RFP results and negotiation techniques.
Proven expertise in successful carrier negotiation including successful resolution of escalated issues.
Strong understanding of alternative funding arrangements and ability to articulate alternative financial options to internal team members and clients.
Ability to successfully manage a number of complex marketing and negotiations concurrently.
Understanding of and ability to effectively articulate carrier specific strengths and weaknesses.
Effective communication and negotiation skills with internal partners and outside carriers / service providers.
Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
An energetic, motivated professional who exhibits keen business instincts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Possesses strong organizational skills.
Self-starter who excels in working in a fast paced, demanding and rapidly changing environment.
