The Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Administrative Officer, KJCC– Topeka, KS. This position provides administrative support to the facility Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent including scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, directing calls to appropriate staff, screening calls, attending meetings and taking minutes upon request, and drafts correspondence, memos, and reports. Collects and verifies data to create routine agency reports and specialized reports as requested. Using customer service skills, establish and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers.
Salary: $16.56/hr. to $19.65/hr.depending on qualifications. Unclassified (At-Will), Full-Time, Nonexempt, Benefits Eligible.
This position, while performing functions in areas of responsibility, will promote and support satisfactory and harmonious relationships among all staff in all areas of the facility. Provides administrative support to the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent by scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, directing calls to appropriate staff, screening calls, attending meetings and taking minutes upon request, and drafts correspondence, memos, and reports from minimal information. Provide calendaring support to the KJCC Conference Room. In a timely manner, handle requests from employees, juvenile offenders, DOC, the public and other agencies and law enforcement officials. Maintains the utmost confidentiality of our juvenile offenders when dealing with the public, parents, guardians, relatives of juvenile offenders, or employees of KJCC and DOC. Collects and verifies data to create routine agency reports and specialized reports as requested. Gather information from all departments to include in the facility annual report each year. Other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent. This will include facilitating teamwork, encourage and recognize contributions of others, present new ideas, and demonstrate to all employees the office of the superintendent’s willingness to negotiate and seek consensus. Using customer service skills, establish and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers. Obtains on-going training to maintain and update professional skills as a condition of employment. Provides training as requested or as needed through Staff Development. When requested, provides assistance and support to other departments.

Three years of experience in general office, clerical and administrative support work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Skills and/or Qualifications:
Proficiency in word processing, database and spreadsheet applications, and English grammar and punctuation, and ability to take and transcribe meeting minutes. Prefer knowledge of legal processes and of the Kansas Juvenile Code and Kansas Statutes.
