This position is responsible for advanced/senior- level network specialist. Works in a large centralized network center supporting local and remote systems and users. Maintains security on enterprise systems. Provides documentation of agency systems as assigned. Maintains network-support and diagnostic software. Participates in installing, configuring, maintaining and documenting new and existing network technologies. Performs related work as assigned. Manages performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of network resources. Participates in maintaining the network hardware infrastructure including firmware/OS upgrades, patches and performance tuning of agency systems. Conducts product evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software and prepares recommendation reports to management. Participates in creating enterprise software and hardware standards. Attends IT related seminars and stay abreast of current open systems and network technology. Leads Information Technology staff to resolve network problems and assists other team members' on technology projects. Resolves day-to-day network problems as third tier support for the Help Desk. Performs configuration and maintenance or creates documentation for new and existing systems. Identifies and secures enhancements to network facilities. Trains network personnel. Participates in career development training. Documents procedures and reviews other staff's documentation for accuracy. Assists with the designing of the procedures necessary to save and recover system environment from hardware and software failures. Participates in tactical planning for network related activities. Provides project management guidance to complete network center projects on time and within budget. Supports migration to new network operating system levels. Cross-train on non-specialized areas of the network to backup co-workers. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in Network Administration/Design or Information Systems.
Five years full-time experience in computer systems administration, or network administration.
If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.
One additional year of the required experience may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 60 semester hours.
Graduation from accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Network Design or other closely related field.
Three year experience using and maintaining Solar Winds Orion platform including NCM, IPAM and NetFlow modules.
Current Cisco Network (CCNP, CCIE), Security (CSSP, CNSP) other advanced technology certifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Cisco IDS/IPS/Firewall, routing, switching, VPN, and firewall technologies;
Knowledge of the OSI model, Ethernet, TCP/IP, IP sub-netting and the ability to perform deep packet inspection for troubleshooting application performance issues;
Knowledge of ACL/access-list, policy/class-mapping, Copper/Fiber channel Ethernet installation;
Knowledge of WAN optimization and proxy technology platforms and their implementation;
Knowledge of enterprise-level security products, platforms and implementation;
Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 implementation best practices;
Solar Winds Orion product platform including NPM, IPAM, Netflow and NCM modules;
Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
Skill in the configuration, use and troubleshooting of infrastructure protocols such as TCP, IP, SNMP, SMTP, SMB, DHCP, BGP and EIGRP;

Skill in installing, configuring and diagnosing and providing advanced support for Windows, Linux and UNIX environment and services related to network protocols;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; alternate schedule may be available;
Required to respond to emergency on call situations;
May be required to operate a State Vehicle;
Required to travel 15% with possible overnight stays;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
