About Project Transitions: Project Transitions is a nonprofit organization that provides supportive housing for persons living with HIV and at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Position Overview: The Finance & HR Director will oversee all financial and human resources operations for Project Transitions, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and alignment with the organization’s mission. This role involves managing budgets, financial planning, reporting, and compliance while also overseeing payroll, personnel files, and HR compliance. The Finance & HR Director will play a key role in shaping long-term financial sustainability and creating a supportive work environment for staff.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational goals and sustainability.
- Provide financial analysis and insight to support leadership in decision-making processes.
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with program directors, the executive team, and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
- Conduct long-term financial planning to anticipate future needs and ensure financial health. Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and grant accounting.
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Present financial statements, budget variance reports, and key financial metrics to the leadership team and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
- Manage cash flow, investment portfolios, and debt financing as it relates to the full operation of Project Transitions.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations, including tax filings and audits.
- Maintain internal control systems to safeguard the organization’s assets.
- Lead the annual audit process and work closely with external auditors.
- Ensure financial policies and procedures are updated and effectively communicated across the organization. Grant & Contract Management
- Collaborate with program and development teams to manage grant budgets and financial reporting for funders.
- Oversee financial aspects of contract management and ensure the organization meets all contractual financial obligations.
- Track and report on the financial performance of restricted and unrestricted funds as necessary.
Human Resources Management
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable laws.
- Ensure proper accounting of accrued work time, paid time off, and proper reporting of hourly staff.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate personnel files for all staff, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HR best practices.
- Administer employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other applicable benefits.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, EEOC, and ADA.
- Develop and manage the organization’s HR policies and procedures, ensuring staff are informed and trained on key practices.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes to ensure a smooth transition for new hires and departing staff in regard to personnel files, documentation, and certifications.
Team Leadership & Development
- Develop, lead and mentor the finance and HR team, providing opportunities for growth and professional development when possible.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with program and operations teams to ensure financial and HR alignment with organizational goals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement within both the finance and HR functions.
- Serve as direct point of contact for staff for finance, human resources, and items related to finance and human resources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in nonprofit financial and human resources management.
- Demonstrated experience with financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and financial compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of payroll processes, benefits administration, and HR compliance regulations.
- Proficiency in financial and HR management software and systems. Specifically, experience and knowledge with MIP Abila Fund Accounting software, or comparable, required.
- Experience with Office 365, SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- High level of integrity, commitment to the organization’s mission, and a passion for social impact.
Compensation & Benefits
- $87,500 - $95,000 based on experience, certifications, and expertise
