The Highlights

The Network Engineer III assists in planning, forecasting, implementing and identifying resource requirements for network systems of high complexity. In this role, you will design and establish protocol compatibility standards, develop and implement network enhancements and make recommendations for improvement. You also will implement network architecture and designs.

What you will do
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the client experience
Participate in network planning, architecture design and engineering
Integrate and schematically depict communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations
Evaluate new products
Provide network problem resolution
Assist in developing and documenting technical standards
Develop and implement approved methods of procedure
Design and establish protocol compatibility standards, develop and implement network enhancements and make recommendations for improvement
Work on projects, systems and issues of medium-to-high complexity surrounding network planning, configuration and optimization
Provide escalated tier support across organizations and to third party vendors
Work on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as team lead
Coach less experienced staff
Adhere to industry-specific local, state and federal regulations
Know, understand and follow company policy
Carry out other duties as needed
Required keys for success
Five or more years of data network experience
Advanced data networking knowledge (OSI Model, TCP/IP, Optical Transport)
Advanced knowledge of related industry specifications and standards: IEEE, ANSI, fiber (multimode, single mode, UTP), bridging, switching, routing, Ethernet and transport technologies and protocols
Advanced knowledge in network design, architecture, protocols and topology
Advanced knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support current operations
Advanced knowledge of basic network devices and appliances
Advanced knowledge of network designing software such as Visio
Ability to perform duties in a fast-paced team environment
Aptitude to learn new technology quickly
Ability to use personal computer and software applications
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Effective communication skills

Knowledge of company products and services
Proven experience with the Voice Trunking Platforms [PRI and Session Initiation Protocol (SP)], SIP voice technology, network design, core network components and/or troubleshooting practices

Your education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience (required)
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP or CCIP) (preferred)
Industry- and vendor-specific certifications and training (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent)
