Software developer to assist with development/support of SRP's Distribution Operations application base including .Net, Java, and web applications as well as Smallworld-based Outage Management and Distribution GIS systems. Position will be responsible for implementation and maintenance of various Java, .Net, and web applications used by the Distribution Operations groups. Work will consist of highly complex design, analysis, development, coding, implementation, administration and troubleshooting of these systems and their external interfaces. Candidate will also determine the impact and consequences of system changes, builds and installations, to ensure that all service level agreements and operational compliance requirements are met.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Job Requirements:
  • The position requires working in a collaborative environment to design, develop, deploy and maintain 24x7 supported applications using a structured, release-based software development life cycle (SDLC) methodology.
  • Candidate will be required to participate in an on-call rotation to support the software used within Distribution Operations
  • Performs basic problem analysis, resolution, repair and recovery in support of clients and other team members following a methodology suitable to the environment & application area assigned
  • Perform information systems tasks such as survey, analysis, design, programming, testing & implementation
  • Applies standard information systems practices & techniques
  • Prepares and/or conducts written & oral reports & presentations
  • Assesses client requirements for information processing needs

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.


Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three-years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Additional Information

  • Knowledge of computer development, hardware, software, operating systems & operating environment
  • Knowledge of network configuration, database design & application web services
  • Basic knowledge of networks and security, including firewall & proxy settings
  • Detailed knowledge of multiple programming languages, including strong experience with .Net Programming & Java, web development
  • Development experience with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Framework (C#, WCF, ASP.NET), Java
  • Experience developing & implementing web services
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task & prioritize work
  • Strong teamwork/collaboration skills
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Experience with Test Driven Development a plus

  • Coordinates work with other departments
  • Acts as primary liaison to client organizations for specific projects
  • Prepares recommendations for management consideration
Other significant requirements:
  • Responsible for planning, scheduling & monitoring projects
  • Occasional contacts with software vendors, equipment & services
  • Occasional travel to industry organizational functions & SRP facilities
  • Depending on assignment, frequent requirement to work with confidential data
