What We Do
Terabase Energy was founded with the mission to accelerate decarbonization of large-scale energy generation beyond intermittent renewable power. Terabase is at the forefront of developing and applying innovative technologies that will remove 70-80% of solar power plant assembly works from the field using a combination of advanced pre-assembly and construction techniques, factory methods, customized equipment, and automation.

The Senior Director of Construction Operations, reporting to the Head of the Construction Business Unit, is responsible for the deployment of Terabase’s construction automation technologies and for the successful execution of all its customers’ construction projects. She/he will develop a project execution organization composed of project managers, construction managers and other support functions.
The Senior Director of Construction Operations will play an instrumental role in scaling our organization and driving its profitability. She/he will closely coordinate with our Business Development, Product Management, R&D, Manufacturing, Engineering and Accounting teams. These interfaces will be key to ensure a smooth, scalable, and profitable deployment of our construction automation technologies.

Ideally, candidates for this role will be located in the Sacramento area, however remote work will be considered for the right candidate.

Manages portfolios of projects across the US for which Terabase is providing mechanical installation services or deploying turn-key robotics solutions
Builds a project execution group from the ground up, scaling operations to Gigawatt level
Provides on-site leadership for project team by building and motivating team members to meet project and corporate goals
Passionately builds the team by attracting, interviewing, assessing, mentoring, and retaining Top Performers
Contracting and Contract Management
Participates in presales department activities to develop teaming strategies, technical approach, scopes of work, and bid strategies
Supports contracting and negotiation efforts with customer
Produces complete subcontracts and ensures all subcontractors execute to the agreement and the company’s standards
Assists in dispute, negotiation, arbitration, or litigation, as needed
Budget
Works to exceed established goals and drive bottom-line P&L results
Works with the project team to balance the delivery of projects against the realities of a budget
Maximizes portfolio level cash flow by ensuring the team is adhering to the project invoicing schedule and ensures the team accurately documents and submits all receivables, quantity as-builts, change orders and claims
Schedule
Ensures successful development of the project schedule on each project and that the team is executing to the plan
Works with the project team to obtain status reports regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks, and issues, which is further circulated to leadership across leadership
Process Improvement
Drives adoption of new software and hardware technologies by project teams
Drives the development of innovative means and methods for solar array erection (pile QC, tracker alignment, etc.)
Manages and continuously improves field operation processes and procedures
Directs the execution of the project using the Quality Management System
Participates in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or related field with 10+ years of experience or equivalent with a track record of achievement and career progression (Construction Manager to Project Manager to Project Executive).
A minimum of 10 years of experience as a Senior Project Manager and/or Director overseeing a portfolio of greenfield construction projects (significant renewable experience is highly desired)
Deeply familiar with leading solar racking solutions and installation means and methods
Keen interest in technology and construction automation
Experience successfully leading and managing complex portfolios valued at $30 million or a series of complex projects simultaneously with an aggregate value of $30 million.
Expertise building a team in a growth market by assessing, recruiting, and developing A-players
Success in mentoring employees, and addressing shortcomings via corrective action processes
Demonstrated high level of judgment – can sensitively apply knowledge and skills to select practical, effective courses of action
Previous experience in negotiating with customers and subcontractors / vendors
Success managing subcontractors and developing and executing innovative project changes
Proven success developing cost to complete, costing, and pricing Change Orders
Demonstrated ability to read, understand and interpret contract and insurance documents
Experience influencing and gaining buy-in from stakeholders, executives, team members, and peers
Working Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, P6 Primavera, and Bluebeam software with experience presenting to stakeholders and senior leadership.
Logistics and/ or military background a plus
Must be open to travel (frequent visits to project sites are required)
