The Appomattox Residency is seeking to fill multiple emergency positions in Appomattox County to work during 24 hour emergency operations only (12 hour shifts).
Positions available for “on-call” seasonal work during winter weather and snow operations. During inclement weather, will operate and maintain highway equipment, such as dump trucks, front end loaders, and tractors; clear snow and ice from roadways; apply abrasives and chemicals on road surfaces and perform heavy manual labor.

Candidates must be skilled in operating highway equipment during inclement weather conditions and performing preventive maintenance on equipment. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor to include standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and work on-call during 12 hour day or night shifts to support emergency operations. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Valid Commercial Driver’s License required.
Experience performing snow removal operations.
Will be required to work outside normal business hours in emergencies, inclement weather and hazardous traffic conditions. Safety shoes required. Selected applicant must complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen prior to employment. Fingerprint based criminal history background check, references, work history and DMV records will be verified prior to employment.
